MomToDogs: I seriously think that if you are awakening with headaches, etc., it could be your pillows/pillowcases/sheets. I'm only saying this because it's exactly what used to happen to me, years ago. Please try usinging liquid unscented laundry detergents. I use Purex (free of dyes and perfumes type), but have had good results using the other brands (all scent free varieties). Powder leaves a residue, and I suggest using the liquid. I use only half a capful, or half of a recommended amount. And, seriously, unfortunately, many docs just don't even think of doing this. I've known too many people who have suffered for years, taking all kinds of medications (such as Im*trex, etc., etc.); and then, finally, they paid attention to what I've been suggesting to them all along. Now, I get all kinds of grateful 'thank you's' and why didn't they listen to me, etc.. It's worth a try.

MOMTODOGS: I just read your latest post! Glad that your eye doc found the problem!
Now, try to keep your very sensitive eyes away from all harsh detergents, and use the unscented 'free from dyes and perfumes' types of liquid detergents on your pillow cases and sheets/blankets. p.s. I've been changing my pillowcases every couple of days, sometimes daily when I feel an allergy approaching. Seems to work well (for me, anyway)!

@ROMARY.....thanks for the tips, I do use liquid detergent as well as less than recommended and I do change sheets weekly but I will try changing my pillow case more often... Like I said drippy nose and watery eyes have cleared up a lot but I still suffer from the headaches....so maybe there is more I need to do!

So much great advice by thoughtful, caring posters. We do have a wonderful community here, don't we.❤️
@Mom2Dogs, You mentioned in one of your posts that you seem to awaken with these headaches or other symptoms... in addition to the excellent advice about laundering bed linens, I wanted to add something. If the issue is some sort of allergy, the problem might be inside the pillows or the mattress. Laundering the pillows, or placing a protective cover on them and on the mattress (as mentioned earlier in the thread) might help.
Also, one of my doctors told me that our hair and face can collect pollen, dust, etc., during the day. Then, when our head hits the pillow those allergens or irritants rub off onto the pillow and then to our nose and eyes. She suggested being sure to wash my face and hair before going to bed. Hope that's helpful, and I wish you the very best! I have disabling migraine, almost daily, so I can understand how those headaches can ruin your day.

I have had one bad side for years. Eventually a really good ENT found a deviated septum (which I choose not to fix) and a chronically inflamed/infected tonsil on that side. Since I had my tonsils out it is much better. Just left with allergy related congestion that I treat with a neti pot. Problems solved.

I never suffered from seasonal allergies until I moved to Maryland from Los Angeles.
The first year was the worst. Sinuses, eyes, throat, cough, you name it. Fast forward, after much trial and error, I take Claritan daily and Claritan-D (sudafed) during high pollen months. All is well and I can breathe.
Regarding my sinuses, I would get both a runny and stuffy nose at the same time. This resulted in sinus infections and a sore throat. The neti pot only worked when I used it. Antibiotics had their own side effects.
All this from allergies I didn't know I had.

My advice is to see a doctor and be careful what you use, as some of these OTC medications as well as prescription medications can give you heart palpitations and others can lead to fungus and once you have nasal fungus, it seems to be a chronic problem.
One bit of advice about your mattress and pillows: Turn your mattress weekly and vacuum it when you do and use mattress covers and pillow covers which you wash often or change often. Change your pillows frequently. Dust mites can cause allergy/sinus problems.
It has been my experience that using steroids and antibiotics for sinus infection, albeit they work short term, eventually, make the problem worse. I have had that experience. I was, however, following doctors' orders at the time but I think over the years, doctors' ideas about treating sinus infection have changed.
