Thank you, everyone for your posts and for the advice and also for sharing!
I have been suffering with low back problems for year and years. Have been sent to chiro and PT and have gone on and off for many years.
I was diagnosed some time ago with fibro, arthritis, osteoporosis, and degeneraive disc disease.
I for some time have been getting this pain primarily down my left hip and leg and at times down into my foot and sometimes feel like a sensation of prickles in my foot. Some days not that bad -- other days --- very bad.
I have had this before in my past but it seemed to go as quickly as it came.
I guess I will have to make yet another doctor visit.
Blessings to all!

I know someone with Degenerative DD. They do PT exercises focusing on stretching and building core and lower back strength. The have leg pain as well and this seems to be helping lessen it.

Don't you understand that there are several conditions that can cause this pain and until it is properly diagnosed it can not be treated. You could have a herniated disc, spinal stenosis or muscle spasms. Each needs a different treatment. SEE THE DOCTOR.

AngelPuppy,
Please see the bolded language above. When symptoms go beyond the ankle and into the foot, a red flag goes up. Please do see a specialist, as he/she needs to rule out progressive nerve damage which could ultimately cause foot drop.

I've had this problem for 11 years. I get injections a couple times a year to help when the pain becomes more than I can stand. I can't remember what being pain free is like. I continue to exercise. I have seen the neurosurgeon, but they say the 2 herniated dics and spinal stenosis are not bad enough. They want to wait until I can't control bodily functions. Wish I had the option of another opinion, but with Kaiser that's just not an option.

I suffered from sciatica and found relief by going to a chiropractor for manipulations and physical therapy. Mine was from a buldging disc. It took about a month for me to feel better. The main thing to remember is that you will get better - very hard to stay positive when in this kind of pain.....but I promise, there is a rainbow at the end of the storm. Once you are bettter, make sure you walk - I get on the treadmill every day and do at least two miles. Pain is an excellent motivator. Also, use a back rest device while driving or sitting for long periods of time. Ask you P.T. therapist about it. Helps to straighten your spine and keep you pain free - get out when travelng every hour and walk.
Hang in and feel better.

Couldn't agree with AngelPuppy more. Twenty years ago I had a sciatica episode. First was given pain meds and then went to chiropractor for 9 months, 3 time weekly. Most of the pain did go away but, likely due to an improper diagnosis, I was left with the tingling you describe and pain during bedtime. Some nights it's so severe a sheet cannot touch my foot. After all these years, it's too late but I obviously have nerve damage. This has been discussed with several doctors including neurologists. Do not procrastinate. Get an appropriate diagnosis and don't rely solely on any of the suggestions. They may work temporarily but you may be left with other issues. Like many of us, when the symtoms subside, we move on and let it go till the "next time."

mysterylady,
Clarification for you: AngelPuppy did not write the recommendation re symptoms moving into the foot, I did. Angel Puppy is the OP who asked for input and needs to see a specialist.

sfnative

Sorry, sfnative. I just realized it when I returned to the thread just now. You were definitely correct in what you advised. I must read more carefully in the future.
