Ah @Tabbycat those cookies are just wonderful. They are more like a cake than a cookie. That recipe is over 100 years old

It's hard to know how much to hold back from family to protect them, and how much to share in order not to leave them out. DH and I are currently holding on to one because we have a diagnosis, no treatment plan. Really hard. Your FIL must love y'all a lot.

@Drythe don't substitute margarine for butter , they won't taste as good

(cherry) Grandma's White Cookies

1c butter
2 1/2 c sugar
1 c sour cream
3 eggs
6 c flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
1 tsp nutmeg

( I add ,because I like the taste, 2 tsp vanilla 2 tsp almond extract)

Cream sugar butter add next 6 ingredients mix well.. chill (.. overnight if possible)

These can be rolled or drop..roll them about 1/4 to 1/2 in thick..do not over flour it will make the cookies tough bake at 350 8 to 10 minute
