@sfnative So verry sorry. As another poster, I too am on Meloxicam which reduces inflamation. I would suggest you stay off of your feet, use ice packs at the site to decrease inflamation, and don't, above all, hit that area with hot water in the shower which increases inflamation.
I have dealt with this since 2010.
If you have a 'sports doctor" group in your area, they are experts on treatment and rehab.

@vsm wrote:Oh my, Rebecca -- it sounds unbearable. Yes, my prayers are with you and will remain with you. This is way too long to have to wait for help, which I hope will begin on Monday with a strong anti-inflammatory after your tests. My ortho surgeon prescribed meloxicam, which gave me some relief while I awaited my first epidural. I encourage you to ask that an anti-inflammatory be prescribed for you pending the results of your tests, so that you can hang on until you have whatever procedure you need. Just know that you will get through this. Please put yourself first -- make a pest of yourself if you have to. You will get through this.
Yes, if only I could take Mobic, as I know it to be a rather stron anti-inflammatory, which would probably help me right now. However, I took Mobic for 12 years, because I have chronic migraine (35 years of the same migraine), only to discover that Mobic had done a number on my kidneys, so I cannot take any anti-inflammatories ever again. My great logg.
And, yes, I will make a pest of myself. To tell you the truth, if I could tolerate a trip on a plane, I would have flown to San Diego to see my ortho spine doc several months ago. Problem is I can't even bear any more than 10 minutes in a car at present. I was the laughing stock of our lunch group on Thursday, when, after sitting much too painfully and for too long without getting up and walking around, I then tried to get back into our car. I couldn't! I really need my Cadillac back!!! Long story short, I ended up in the back seat of a friend's car. Everyone outside the car wanted to either push my bum or push my feet to get me in. I was in so much pain, I just asked them to please leave me alone and I would scooch myself into th car. Once in with my legs straight out and on the seat, somehow someone got me buckled in. Now I just need to get to the doctor's office to see the NP on Monday. Phew!
Gosh, @sfnative, your condition is even more fragile than I thought. I hope you will have someone take you to your app'mt, stay with you there and speak up for you, and then take you home safely with care in place. Though I'm not a doctor, it seems to me that your inability to take anti-inflammatories or benefit from previously prescribed anti-nerve pain meds places you in a trauma situation. (I realize that we usually associate trauma with risk of imminent death or permanent serious injury, but you could pass out from your excruciating, non-stop pain or be rendered helpless by it, and that would surely be as dangerous to you as any other affliction/illness that qualifies as "trauma." Please have a friend or family member with you as an advocate -- I'd be with you myself if that were possible!

Thank you for mentioning gabapentin. I've been placed on it several times for different reasons, none of which worked, with the exception of once. I'll sure keep it in mind tomorrow.

Have you tried CBD oil? There are several online articles about CBD oil and pain management. Some are quite technical. The one below is not:
Re the CBD oil, I just saw my PCP a few days ago and she brought this up, as well as Medical Marajuana. Told her I'd have to contact my Neuro's office on Monday or Tuesday, as I have had a neurological condition in my brain for many years and must be super careful as to what medications and other "stuff" I take. This also means I don't drink alcohol, etc. So, will let my neuro make that call. Your query is a valid one and I'm looking forward to the answer.

@Still Raining wrote:There are indeed two Level 1 trauma centers in Portland - OHSU and Legacy Emanuel.
As part of their licensing requirements there must be certain specialists on-call including neurologists. In addition they also must treat cases of lower acuity. They also accept life flight. No one can be turned away for payment issues.
Neither is designated trauma versus sick. Although I think Legacy is Level 1 for pediatric cases in spite of OHSU having Doernbecher.
Might be worthwhile to check again.
OSHU is just too far from our house, as we're in N.E. near Rossi Farm and 10 minutes from the Michael's store off of Airport Drive.
Providence takes only "Sick." I did go to Legacy with that horrible foot injury on Day 2, but was pawned off on a third rate podiatrist.

Hi ECGB,
You've hit the nail on the head, as I'm headed to just such a practice tomorrow. Covering nearly all specialties, they bill themselves as THE most comprehensive sports and rehab practice west of the Rockies. I am hopeful and have fingers crossed.
I live in the Pacific Northwest and a vast number of folks here are involved in outdoor sports and many are injured annually, some rather severely, from head to foot, hence the need to cover a great many specialties.

Your recent response was very kind. Frankly, if my husband came into the exam room with me, he wouldn't know what to say. His expertise is in design and development of "hardware" vice "software" in Silicon Valley. Fortunately, I have a clinical background which will do me well during my appt tomorrow and those following. Thanks for much for your caring words.
