@Hi @liliactree

have you tried D- mannose?  It's available at most healthfood stores .  It is used in third world countries  where antibiotics are unavailable and too costly .   It's a natural remedy and works as a preventative as well as a treatment .   I have had great success using it .

 Look it up there's a lot of information out there on it .

@LilacTree I totally agree with @Gsmom that you should look into D-mannose.  I had occasional UTIs as a child and after menopause, they became recurrent.  Often they would start on the weekend and I'd have to wait until Monday to see the doctor and get relief.  AZO does work great for temporary relief, but it does not cure the infection.  I ordered D-mannose from Amazon and started taking it twice a day.  It cured the UTI that I had when I first started on it, and I haven't had another one since.  It is basically sugar that passes though the body and the bacteria clings to it as it is expelled from the urinary tract.

Hi, I needed to take prophylactic antibiotics at 3 months at a time. It really helped because I was getting frequent infections with klebsiella pneumonia. Like yourself, I think it is a weakened immune system.

Happy Belated Birthday!!! Hope after you feel a little better you and your girls can celebrate.

@Trinity11

My LBI daughter (the one who got flooded out last night by the nor'easter) . . . anyway, her teenage daughter was treated as you indicated you were.  Smaller doses every day for several months.  She has been fine since, but then she is 17 and healthy otherwise.  I would be willing to try that.

Thanks for the HB wishes!!  I'm not looking forward to the next one, LOL.

Really sorry she was flooded out. It was very bad here and I worried about losing heat.

I think the RA affects our immune system...we just need to take it day by day.:womanhappy:

@Trinity11

Oh, no doubt about that.  That's it's main objective . . . to just destroy all of our systems, inside and out, and also invite other immune diseases to play with.  I have at least five.  Even though the pain is continuous (except when I'm in bed) the symptom that is most frustrating is the constant fatigue.  I don't have good days and bad days, every day is the same.

If my back goes out, that makes it a bad day, or these infections, or digestive system issues, all of which "add to" not replace.  I have so much empathy for you and anyone else who has this frustrating disease.

As far as the storm, my daughter is going to send me photos of the street in front of her apartment.  I truly don't know how much longer she is going to be able to live there.

@LilacTree I take a biologic which relieves a lot of the pain. Like yourself I have other auto-immune issues but the drugs for them do help. I know about the side effects but quality of life means more to me than length. I also have gastroparesis but with meds and diet, I manage. I have nights I cannot sleep but I have found some good tv shows  to get my mind off it all. Don't think I don't get my days...I just try my best and force myself to exercise (Walking) and my husband helps me a lot with the house and he keeps up my morale.Woman Happy

Wow, I'll see if I can find it.

I use D'Mannose.  It works fast and unless you have an infection requiring antibiotics it will take care of it.

The bacteria that causes cystitis and bladder infections have finger-like projections on their surface which manage to attach to the bladder lining causing irritation. D-Mannose is able to rid the bladder of these bacteria because when the urine is saturated with D-mannose, bacteria are preferentially attracted to the D-mannose, over and above your bladder lining. Once they have formed a complex, the bacteria are then passes out with the D-mannose in the urine.

It comes in loose powder you mix into water or you can buy it in filled capsules.  It is a derivative of sugar but will not harm diabetics.

It is fine for long term use with no repercussions.  Children to the elderly, even pets now as vets are finding how well it works.

My experience/recommendation:

Natural Factors CranRich
or
Andrew Lessman Cranberry Benefits

One pill in AM, one pill in PM; every day (not just when you feel a UTI attack coming on); for the rest of your life, like brushing your teeth

D-mannose (which is the derivative of cranberry) was not effective for me or my friends who suffer. These pills work for us. It could take a couple of days to feel the effects.

The cranberry extract prevents the bacteria adhering to the cells lining the urinary tract. If you already have a UTI, take your prescribed antibiotics and the pills at the same time and continue with the pills forever.Cat Happy  This should prevent future infections.  Obviously, ask you doctor about any contraindications for you.

You explained how it works as I was typing, apparently. Cat Happy

AZO also has a line of UTI supplements - gummies, caplets, etc....  I have a sample of the "gummies" and a couple of bottles of cranberry juice.  I should take them

Azo products made my blood pressure shoot sky high.  Please be careful if you're prone to high BP.

@waterlily

Thanks for the heads up.  I do not have HBP, but this is good to know.

@Trinity11

My cellophane back nixes the walking.  That's from the osteoporosis.  Sometimes I can get to the mailbox (down the block) with my Rollator (walker).

I'm happy for you Trinity.

Another vote for Andrew Lessman's Cranberry Vitamins. I was getting UTI's every few months and taking these daily has finally stopped them (haven't had one in years). Like a previous person posted, you take these daily to prevent them, not just when you have an infection.
