Re: Recovery from Hyterectomy

It took me a full month to go back to work. I was lucky to have a friend invite me to her house as I had a 6 year old. I had fibroids and endo also. I stayed with my friend 2 weeks and then my church brought me dinners once I got home for another week, I have never regretted the surgery...periods were so dreadful I am happy they are gone. There have been no problems with s...xuality . Although my drive is reduced, everything else works fine. Just take it easy. Everyone is different. I had to take pain meds for 3 weeks. I was tired for a month.

Re: Recovery from Hyterectomy

Thanks to everyone for candid responses and kind words. Needed a boost as I make my way through recovery process. Little better on 5th day post-op. Dr. performed a laparoscopic hyst. with 3 incisions. Each day, I have showered, dressed, and walked around house. My body definitely tells me when to slooooow down and rest. Took abdominal muscles for granted and didn't realize they play role in smallest things: picking up a sock, shampooing hair, turning over in bed, and much more. Checked "Hystersisters" site for videos and articles. Love how women join together to support one another here and there!

Re: Recovery from Hyterectomy

You will gain your strength as weeks go by and soon you will feel so much better. It is major surgery. I agree with posters who encourage rest, but also make yourself move. This has so much to do with your recovery. If possible, sit in the sunshine a bit each day. You're wise not to overindulge in food. Watch those restrictions, especially when you begin to feel better, and as it relates to housework. I remember feeling good enough to do some housework. Once my husband (and he's great in many ways) saw I had healed enough to pick up some of the chores, the family stopped helping. We had to have a talk at this point. Do let people around you be aware of your restrictions. Take care.

Re: Recovery from Hyterectomy

I think there is some sort of a "girdle" device to help hold your stomach muscles together as to not stretch them while healing. You know I finally went to the gyno in May after not going for about three years out of fear that I would need this operation because of my large fibroid. Well thank God she didn't suggest it this time like she did the last (my heavy bleeding that only lasted two months had stopped and became normal). However I am so dar n tired of looking so bloated in that area I almost wish it was taken out. I am 54 this month and still waiting for menopause as this is when fibroids usually shrink.

Anyway so glad you are doing so fine, rejoice in your bravery and take care.

Don't over do it,very important to help avoid adhesions which I had because I didn't take it easy.Your insides need to heal no matter how well you feel on the outside.

Re: Recovery from Hyterectomy

HAD A TOTAL ABDOMINAL HYST WHEN I WAS 35. Back in those days you stayed in hospital for a week which was really nice ! ANYWAY........ don't push yourself, be patient with your body and rest everyday for a while. Don't strain your abdomen. I found that wearing a mild to medium control panty really help support the lower abdomen.

I wish you a healthy recovery!

Re: Recovery from Hyterectomy

I had a total hysterectomy when I was 32...that would be 33 years ago. Was cut from hip to hip, was in the hospital 10 days. My only advice is...just take it easy on yourself. I felt so good after 2 weeks, I decided I could vacuum. Um...no I couldn't. At 3 weeks I headed down my street for a good walk. Had to call the neighbor to come pick me up 6 houses down, lol. You will so know when you have over done, so stop what you are doing and rest. Trust me, you will be fine...just make yourself a priority for a bit.
