Re: Really serious insomnia!

You posted earlier about sleep issues due to RLS - that thread is still here.

Is your problem still from the RLS?

Re: Really serious insomnia!

I take a magnesium blend daily, that's good for several things and we often have a mug of relaxing, "sleepy" tea.

Re: Really serious insomnia!

Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) can can cause restlessness and jitteriness for some. It wires me.

Also, extra strength acetaminophen can cause insomnia. This is not widely known. I cannot take it late in the day.

Re: Really serious insomnia!

I've tried the magnesium spray and saw no difference, but that was quite awhile ago.  My current problems are mostly due to hormones.  I went of the Progesterin/Estradiol I was taking a few months ago.  I know the Doctor said I would hate her in the beginning, but I would've expected that to go away by now.

I never have any problems going to sleep.  I go to bed and I'm asleep within 10 minutes.  Whatever sleep I get from that point until i wake up for whatever reason is my good sleep.  That could be a noise, or my husband coming to bed from the couch, etc.  Usually, it's around 1:30 or 2:00.  After that, I never have good sleep.  Yes, I sleep, but it's very restless, and I start feeling pains from certain positions.

Re: Really serious insomnia!

@Irishgirl555  Loss of sleep/bad sleep/not sleeping well I have learned is not good at all.  I'm 71 & probably 7-8 years ago I was not sleeping well, felt very tired during the day & just was off at work. I needed a hip replacement so was sent for a sleep study & wow, eye opening as I have sleep apnea & restless legs but then comes the treatment as there are many which most did not work for me.  I now use a cpap machine which I hate but honestly it does work & I use trazodone which I take 15-20 minutes before I go to bed.  I had tried magnesium, gabapentin, other rx, other otc but for me, this seems to give me 6-7 good hours of sleep/night.  I realize we are all different so I hope you find what works for you.

Thank you colleena, sounds like you've had more than your share of sleepless nights😖I truly believe that all of this began with Shingles several yrs. ago...hence the numb feet, tingly legs and poor sleep. So everyone get your Shingles vaccinations!

Re: Really serious insomnia!

I had really bad insomnia for years.  Would get up around 2 AM and watch TV and wander around the house, finally settling down around 5 AM in a bed in another room.  Had to get up at 6:30 for work.  My solution for my insomnia was a divorce.  After 43 years of living in a  stressful relationship I divorced 11 years ago and have been sleeping well ever since!  Not recommending this for anyone, but it sure worked for me.

I have used Valerian Root capsules and they helped me a great deal.
