Questions after orthopedic vist

I have been having bad knee pain in left knee for awhile, figure weight my age, etc. went to orthopedic this morning, first they did xrays then went to doctor he showed me on left knee I am bone on bone.. gave me a cortisone shot and set me up for a MRI on wed then back to see him on thursday.. anyone else dealing with this same issue.. what do you do for the pain. I have been icing.. and on tramadol for pain. I work full time and sometimes like today just walking to the bathroom had me in tears. thanks in advance for any help
