My 13 year old DS was diagnosed with seasonal allergies last week. His nose is stuffy, and he coughs A LOT. He tried Claritin, but it did nothing. His doctor recommended Allegra or Zyrtec. DS has been using Zyrtec for one week. Nothing has changed. His doctor gave him a prescription for Flonase to use along with the OTC medicine if necessary. I had it filled, and DS has been using both medications for a few days. No difference. I have cleaned the house (vacuumed, dusted, etc.) I washed all of his bedding and even vacuumed his mattress. (I saw a story on TV that mites live in and on mattresses.) Our neighbor's cat visits us daily and is shedding like crazy. Do you think that after years of no problem my DS has developed an allergy to the cat? I told my DS to stay away from the cat to test my theory. Do any of you with allergy experience have any suggestions? Have I missed something? Would having our air ducts vacuumed help? DS's doctor said that allergies are bad this year, and the problem should clear up by mid-May after everything has bloomed. But if he is not better soon, I think we will visit the doctor, again.
