Question about Metformin

My doctor prescribed Metformin for PCOS. I've been taking it for about three days and having some side effects - diarrhea, stomach cramps, light headedness. It may be bad enough that I will have to discontinue the medicine. But I was wondering, for those of you who take it, did the side effects lessen over time?
