I am 68 and unfortunately need to take 5 meds:  atorvastatin for Cholesterol,  Lisinopril for Blood Pressure,   Raloxifene for Osteopenia,  and  2 eye drops for Glaucoma.  Sady, I fall into the Medicare Donut Hole around September timeframe.  Hoping Trump can do something about the cost of meds.. it is the Glaucoma drops that are the most $$.

Ricki Lynn, you mentioned 2 eye drops for glaucoma, I use Latanaprost drops & it is only $7.00 per month..curious about yours, my pressures are holding steady, actually have dropped some.

Re: QUESTION FOR THOSE AGE 60 PLUS

Latanoprost is a generic Glaucoma drop.  In fact, one of my sisters uses it.  My doctor tried it on me awhile ago (this has been going on for about 20 years now)  and my pressures got higher.  He is really watching me like a hawk, and at least for now,  he is reluctant to change what is working.   I keep hoping - and this one thing I really don't like about big Pharma -  that there will be more generics.  The creator shouldn't be able to monopolize the market as long as they do.

I'm so glad the generic works for you.

I'm 77(and a half) and stopped taking prescription meds about 3 or 4 years ago when I stopped going to a primary care provider.  I still see an opthamologist at least once a year.  When I finally came to accept that they just kept adding meds without re-evaluating the need (and I felt I was being treated as a collection of organs connected to a checkbook) I decided to give it all up.  I was taking a statin, 2 blood pressure meds, 2 diabetes meds and I think there were more, but I forget.   I was also sent to have all sorts of tests, usually expensive, time consuming and annoying, if not usually invasive.  I felt I was not listened to was concerned about drug interactions.  None of the medics I went to seemed to be concerned about drug interactions.  Strange thing:  my health improved greatly, as did my bank balance.  My eye doctor asks for my primary care physician and seems to accept (finally) that I don't have one.  I told him I had "trust issues" and he seems to agree.   I had a fall a few months back and found  my blood pressure was in the low-normal range, without meds.    My diabetes has not progressed and appears to have improved.   I don't know what my cholesterol is doing and I really don't care.

I will (probably) seek medical help for an injury, but the idea of being tied down to some medical regimen that is not based on ME just doesn't appeal.  I did it for many, many years (40+) but no more.  I'm too old to die young and I really hate the modern medical climate that insists you meet some non-objective standard of measurements.  I object to being given anti-depressants and refuse them.  Since when do people not have the right to their emotions?  Why is everyone expected to be happy all the time?  Why is everyone so afraid of death?  (I'm not a fan of pain, but don't want to become adicted to some opioid medication.)  I rarely excercise, eat poorly and live a quiet, contemplative life.

And I wonder a lot.  Ads for meds are followed by ads from lawyers wanting to represent you after you take the meds.   Ads for foods are followed by ads for weight loss plans.  I don't know what it  all means.

Don't know if this is what you wanted to know (or why you wanted to know) but I hope it helps.

@excpa   PRICELESS !!  You sound like one heck of a broad (excuse my boldness Smiley Happy ).

Re: QUESTION FOR THOSE AGE 60 PLUS

I'm 57, close enough to 60.  I think you are asking if I'm afraid of or suspicious of prescription medications and refuse to take any.  No, that's not me.  Not anyone I know actually.  I do work in healthcare and I admire, respect and have faith in the healthcare system.  And my husband is an RN.    I also have a few health issues that I take prescription medications for.  I am ever so grateful that I do because if it were not for modern medications, I'd probably be dead or seriously ill by now.  I've had hypertension for years, it's well controlled on medication and never in million years would I stop taking it without medical input.  My doctor and I are actually in the process of tapering me off one of the meds.  I take 2 andm bp has been in the normal range for well over a year.  Strokes are no fun, so I don't play games with my blood pressure meds.

@151949  Oh, to clarify...pharmaceutical drugs....natural supplements are not included.

OK - you aren't getting an important FACT here -- most pharmaceutical drugs are made from natural herbs and supplements.Taking pharmaceutical drugs is far less dangerous than taking supplements. Supplements are unregulated and you never know the dose you are getting.I have taken care of a scant few patients who were in ICU because of a Rx drug -- but hundreds who were there for side effects of supplements and herbs. You are way better off taking a Rx drug.

@151949  I think you are wrong. But we can disagree can't we?

Re: QUESTION FOR THOSE AGE 60 PLUS

Wow can't believe that I'm hearing people "rant" about anti-depressents being used to "not alow people to have their emotions . . ." on a QVC forum!  The OP asked about meds people are taking and I can see being curious.  Makes me sad to see so many people so unsupportive of others.  Really makes me sad.
