I know nothing about this procedure.

What I want to suggest is that since you do not know if you actually need this surgery why don't you get all the answers about it from a doctor. How long it will take to recover, and what to expect. That would give you some idea of a time frame and tell you at least how you might be able to make some arrangements for someone to watch over your parents.

Guessing about things sometimes only makes the matter worse by adding to anxiety.

Hospitals are not the nicest place to visit or be but if you could even acquaint yourself with the hospital you will be in that might help you too.

You are in an uncomfortable place, worrying about parents and yourself. I am hoping maybe your daughter could assist you in some way.

Good luck

Thank all of you for your input. I really appreciate it! I'm calling my GYN this morning & I'll see what she has to say. I will probably see a urologist too. There's no way I'm going to have two different surgeries. I'm retired with back problems, but my husband still works. His hours are crazy! It's not an emergency so I'm going to stay calm, maybe try some of your suggestions & see what happens. I love this forum! We can all help each other.

@DAD

You might want to check this website for a state-by-state directory of urogynecologists.

I have one and she has been extremely helpful.

@DAD   Unless you've already seen a Urologist, you really don't know what's going on. Make an appointment with a specialist. Trust me when I say, don't take yourself to the dark side yet. And yes, I KNOW how hard this is to say and more, feel this. I know because we - DH and I are now going through something else with DH and his most recent CT scan.

Don't put it off because you're afraid of what you may find out. Once step at a time, you need to find out what your problem may be. You need to take the bull by the horns and get this done for yourself and those who love you. You need to PROgress not regress, all of this just prays on your mind and holds you back.

BEST to you, go make that appointment.

Re: Prolapsed bladder

[ Edited ]

I should have made my former post a little morre detailed when I recommended seeing a urogynecologist.

I'm very familiar with the problem the OP mentioned. A specialist in both urology and gynecology is qualified to treat and if necessary do surgery in both areas.  Both specialities will no doubt eventually be involved in whatever solution is chosen.

There is an easy, but long-term inconvenient, non-surgical way to deal with the problem,  or a surgical solution.  It's probably up to the pattient to decide which to choose.

@DAD - as I understand it, you are having problems with UTIs, not incontinence.  A cystocele does not necessarily cause a UTI, there can be many other causes. You don’t have to choose surgery unless the symptoms become so severe and you don’t want to deal with it anymore.

I have more severe prolapses and decided no surgery on the advice of my gyn dr (who I used to work for) as it could potentially not work well in my case and cause more problems. These surgeries don’t always take care of the problems.

I would ask your gyn or uro/gyn about options and what else you can do about the UTIs.

You sound like you have a lot going on, wishing you well whatever you decide.

@twinkies  @DAD You gave outstanding advice. I eat 1/8 to 1/4 cup of

organic pumpkin seeds a day and have not had any more

urinary track infections in years. Also, the best Kegal exercises are stopping your urine in mid flow about 4 times each time you go. When your muscles are strong there should no drips or very little when you stop. It really works to prevent incontinence or cure it if your muscles have not atrophied too much.

I do not have incontinence. That's why I'm looking in to other suggestions. I only have a grade one cyctosele & have had it for years. I am having bladder & bowel spasms. I think that may be why my bladder doesn't totally empty. I'm doing my kegels & hormone cream for now. Waiting to see a urologist. I know there are muscle relaxers that work on bladder spasms. I just need the urologist to treat me. I am hoping it's nothing serious. I can't handle much more right now. I have pumpkin seeds on my list! Thanks everyone!

Incontinence and UT infections do not always go hand-in-hand with a cystocele.

One  problem doesn't necessarily have to include another, as the OP pointed out.

Thank you for your advice. I have been trying for almost 2 weeks to even make an appointment. My gyn says I need a urologist at this point. We live in a small town & there can be a 6 month wait! I'm ready to find out what's going on. Hope everything works out for you.
