I have been taking Lessman probiotics for about two years, the higher strength ones, and am finding that since taking, I seem to get very loose stools.   Is this a side effect. TIA

Interesting, because I have the opposite reaction from probiotics.  They tend to make me constipated.

A little off topic: My PCP told me that studies are showing that colonoscopies are very bad for stripping the gut of the good bacteria. It can take months to regain the good bacteria that is needed for overall health not just GI.

My GI doc said fiber supplements (citracel, mutamucil) will dry the stool bc they soak up the water. Dietary fiber on the other hand will loosen the stool. The rule does not always work for me.

So are probiotic supplements the treatment of choice for most of yall?

They give me the runs too. Only time I will take them is if and when I am taking antibiotics...which is very rarely.

Probiotics, overall, help my system better tolerate foods, they help me with heartburn.  I used to take an acid reducer, prescription; with the probiotic, I no longer need the prescription.

They had however, given me loose stools at the beginning, that has tapered off, now I've had to increase my fruit intake again.

Many of us cannot take pro bioticsI am one of them. .We have discussed this here for years. I gave up on them and only  Activia works very well for me

BUT,   since I have a sensitivity to any shower gel I use.....lol. I was shopping around for something to ease my problem, besides wearing underwear in the shower.........lol

As a last resort I found a probiotic  " Re (ph)resh"  (Amazon) that balances out your fem area. I bought it,not for yeast infections that it claims to cure,( I was desperate ) but for sensitivity to products, Odly I have never had a yeast infection in my life..lol

I really think it is working for me in the pro~bio area.It is the best probiotic I have ever taken. It works perfectly ( I cannot take probiotics they give me gas) no side effects I take it at night and every morning like clockwork  it works,no side effects .Perfect .No gas like with others. Perfect!  Hopefully it will (is) working with my sensitivity to shower gels as good as it is working on my ....................you know..............lol

I have no negative reaction to probiotics.  No more heartburn and indigestion.  In fact, no stomach issues at all.  Wonderful change for me.

Gastroenterologist recommended Align for my elderly mother. OMG that stuff had her in the bathroom frequently (loose) and with an alarming urgency. It was miserable. We stopped that stuff and she's been much better.

Some people are fine and some have a negative reaction when taking a probiotic.  @Mom in NY - I wonder if it would help for you to cut the serving amount or amend your schedule to every other day?  Maybe a different brand would work better for you.

I can't even eat Activia.  My doctor said that obviously I don't need it, so don't take it.
