Re: Private Health Insurance

Based on various comments on various threads here over the past couple years, I think there were a lot of people who really didn't understand just how expensive health insurance has always been.   Their employers paid all (or most) of the coverage, but that's harder to do these days.

Most states have a multitude of options, but the research is a little time consuming.

Perhaps, when all is said and done, this isn't the right time for OP's daughter to cut her hours.   Or, as I previously stated, she can go from 40 hours to 30 hours, allowing her to keep the coverage she has now.

Re: Private Health Insurance

I have been wondering why the ACA didn't actually address the cost of health care instead of addressing who pays for it.

Re: Private Health Insurance

I agree with many of these posters.  For years my husband and I owned a business with employees and always offered health insurance.  Believe me it has always been expensive and often annual premium increases were 20% years ago.  At this time dh is on medicare with a BC suplement and he pays nothing for the services he gets.  The only caveat is prescription, take no regular meds so bought cheapest RX plan as penalty would have been as much as the cheap plan.  I chose a HD ($3,500) and HSA, my cost for the ins is over $700/month and another$3,000+ in HSA annually.  I guess I'm lucky we can afford it and only once in 10 years have I reached the deductible.  My son on the other hand pays over $1,000/month for a family plan (after the corp.subsidy) that he is still trying to figure out as they utilize two insurance carriers, similar to medicare.  He can never get payments processed correctly and has to fight every inch of the way.  He is so discouraged as he works hard close to 60 hours a week to support his wife and children and doesn't see the return for what he does.  Savings, even the little he tries to do has such a low return he doesn't see the benefit.  Trying to explain it to him as best I can, but I guess we are in a different time.

Re: Private Health Insurance

I can't tell you the number of insurance horror stories I've heard.  I was angry at what had been taken away from me personally.  Sad and sickening, and some people want it to be even worse.

When I was working as a nurse as long as ou worked 24 hr a week you could still buy into the hospital's health insurance. In today's world of 12 hr shifts that is only 2 days a week.

Thank you, I looked and realized it is Kaiser plan, which is like a Medicaid in my state, NJ. My brother in Los Angeles  has Kaiser, and waiting for 3 months to make a routine colonoscopy appt. and he is paying almost $900 a month.

I hate to say it but East coast medical care is sooo much better then West coast. Same with education . So I will wait and see.

But anyway thank you very much, it is nice to hear people's ideas and concerns. Be blessed.

You can only buy an Advantage Plan if you are eligible for Medicare.
