Plus give your kids who are having to worry and care for you a sense of peace that maybe this will help.
I am at a loss sometimes reading your post. Sydsgram has posted to you OVER AND OVER again her experiences..how life is for her etc..but you disregard it..and wait and post a few months later looking for somebody else to come along and say don't take those horrible bio drugs.
I am not sure what you are looking for? At this stage - you are wheelchair bound often..your kids care for you etc..and you KNOW first hand the damage of the Sterioid by each and every MD..and you are like RR who goes and sees/calls asks every person the same thing until she finds one to agree with her and then has the "gotcha" moment.
Seriously - it IS up to you..but you know the damages caused..you know the potential pros of the bio meds..for the life of me I don't just get why you don't give them a short trial..
Your immune system and every thing else is a mess on the Steriod..why not take a well planned risk on the bio's and who knows..it may be the risk that changes your life..take it for a short trial..and if it works ABSOLUTELY F fantastic..if it doesn't..then you know and the 'what ifs' are over!
But it seems you are searching and searching for one MD to agree with you..to keep taking the Prednisone and don't try the bio..that is what it looks like?
She must be getting something out of being sick and disabled. Maybe having her family wait on her is the reason. It's the only logical explanation why she won't at least try a medication that could improve her quality of life. I take Enbrel and it is a miracle drug for me. Not only is my RA controlled, it has also improved my Fribro. My average pain level is 2 -3 without pain medications.

My mother, who has taken it over long periods of time on and off, still cannot simply start and stop taking it in high or effective dosages. It does have a large number of side effects. Weight gain is normal, but it can have a very bad effect on your eyes. My grandmother was on it consistently for at least 12-15 years and when she passed away she was pretty much going blind. It causes the pressure to rise behind your eye and cataracts to form. However, if you're taking it for a short amount of time it shouldn't have effects that serious.
I will say though, since you mentioned you were COPD, that it works well in helping you breath.
I do not have COPD, I don't know where you read that. I also see the eye doctor, just saw him a few weeks ago and I have cataracts that are not surgically ready, so he prescribed glasses. I do not have glaucoma or anywhere near it because my prednisone dosages have always been low. I know how to titrate, and I do it very, very slowly. I am at 6 mgs and will go down to 5 mgs in about five weeks.

I can't believe how doctor's give out Prednisone as though it's aspirin. I don't like it at all.
I gained weight, was starving all the time. I would get up in the middle of the night to eat, (so unlike me). Acquired a very round face.

Thanks sydsgma. I have a lot of respect for you and resent them mentioning your name. I have always taken you seriously, always.

Are you any better off respiratory wise on the Prednisone? I do think you need to discuss the benefits and side effects against the severity of your COPD.
I agree and I'll add that stopping prednisone abruptly can cause serious problems. If you are going to stop taking it, you have to taper off.

Ryukokoro, if you meant your response to the OP, I'm sorry I responded with my comments. I apologize.

You can't be comparing Rainbows and Roses to Ford??????To do so is harsh and unfair.
No one knows the exact stage that Ford is in regarding her illness. The biologics can cause cancer and a myriad of immune system problems. Ford is a very smart woman and if the biologics were for her she already would be taking them.
The fact that you work in the mental health field and the scathing response you made to her.....I just don't understand your cruelty.

My experience was super fast pain reduction, increased energy, insomnia, and fast weight gain. I've only taken it a few times, once, for a few weeks until I could be seen and treated by a rheumatologist.
