They did a CT looking for something and they found I have pnuemonia and so I am on some antibiotics........resting and well some days I feel better durin the the day than I do right now.  I know plently of liquids and rest and I am doing what my doctor suggested but how long did it take you to get over pnuemonia?  Any extra things naturally that you did to speed up the process?  Thank you.

A CT to look for something??

A spot on your lung could be active pneumonia or old scar tissue or nothing at all.

It depends on your general health how long it takes to recover.   I had pneumonia about 6 years ago & it didn't slow me down much.

I was told the protocol for pneumonia is to have a scan or x-ray every 6 months for 2 years to watch it.    My spot is still there, my internal medicine doctor made me have an x-ray recently but I was having other health problems, to rule it out.   Still looked the same as it did 6 years ago so he was satisfied my lungs were fine.

My health event was ultimately unrelated to my old pneumonia.

@DowntonAbbey

Oftentimes there is just no "speeding up" the healing process.   It takes as long as it takes.

Suggestion ....   Confine yourself to some bed rest, if at all possible.   Take a shower and put on your favorite nightgown (or equivalent) and have a little party for yourself.   If you have a stack of magazines or some books you want to read "one of these days", now is the perfect time to have a lazy reading day.  Or do some binge watching.  Order a pizza delivery instead of cooking, if possible, or do whatever you can to have a lazy period.

My guess is that if you resist the resting recommendation, it will take even longer to heal.  Sleep heals the body, so nap as often as possible ... and you'll be out and about before you know it!

If you are taking antibiotics then you should be taking some probiotics because the antibiotics may destroy your normal balance of things in your digestive tract.  I would ask your doc about this beforehand.

op

I had Pneumonia back in February, never been sick in my life!  I am a scuba diver and went to Hawaii to dive in May, couldn't dive more than a few minutes, ruined my trip!!!  To this day it still knocks me on my ass, I am over 60 and have ZERO stamina now.  Take care of yourself, it can be a deadly disease!

@DowntonAbbey

I am feeling very sorry for you!

I am ill quite often, but DH never gets sick. We were sick the entire month last March! When mine was x rayed, it was found to be "only viral bronchitis" but I was started on antibiotics after the second MD trip.

Upon the recommendation of a friend, I took that mixture of apple cider vinegar and honey that is an old home remedy.  We were both so sick, and it was still plaguing us into June.

I say if you get worse in any way, go back to the doctor. I swear my ribs were bruised from the coughing, and that is dangerous too.

Get well soon!

@DowntonAbbey, it took my daughter about 2 weeks before she could go back to school. It just wiped her out. My only suggestion is to follow drs orders and get plenty of rest. When you do start feeling somewhat better, try not to over do it.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

I am so sorry you and your husband were sick for a month.  It is crazy how we staty sick longer now days than before seems like.  I am drinking some juice and eating soup and well I cheated and had some bacon and I don't eat pork, lol..........but all I had to do was place in the microwave for 60 seconds.........I am to go back to my family doctor two weeks from this past Thursday...........he will do a x ray I guess.  I am happy they did not find what they thought they might and found only pneumonia but still it is not fun having it he told me to pace myself and I will know what I can and can't do.  I am to see my brain doctor next week but I don't feel today like making the drive............I do have a letter stating that I have pnuemonia and I will make sure he is faxed a copy of that.........if you miss an appointment without just cuase they will not see you anymore since there are so many people waiting to get in...........but as right now I do not feel like driving over two hours to see a doctor and then come home.  Thank you all for your sweet posts. I hope we have a great winter with no sickness.
