Does anyone know what it means when a bone scan report notes "Increased Uptake" in a couple areas? I had one a few years ago & the report read this in two areas, but my dr at the time never addressed this?

Couldn't find one to show you-I used to take it. If you're not familiar with homeopathy, this one might also have some suggestions?
Thanks @Judaline
I took a look at that and it appears to be a dietary supp containing more than just silicon dioxide (silica). The product I suggested is 100% silicon dioxide.

that is wonderful news....but just an FYI...the tech should never be the one to give you the news....the physician should be the one...or the nurse with permission from the doc.
The tech can read them obviously...they read them every day...but should never give the results.

@Icegoddess wrote:@SilleeMee , just wanted to mention I had a bone scan today and the tech told me my bones looked great. That's 2 in a row now since I've started taking Bamboo extract/Silica. I did take that long break from the Bamboo due to the warning about thyroid disease, so I've been taking the silica since you came up with that alternative to the BE.
That's really great news! I'm never going to stop taking silica. I really believe it helps my bones.
I'm going on with my 6th EVENITY monthly injection soon. That will mark the half-way point to completion. Then after that I'll be getting another DEXA. In the meantime I've been taking the silica, magnesium, potassium, calcium and vitamins K and D. If that doesn't improve my bones I don't know what I'll do next. But I have faith that things will work out just fine.
SilleeMee, I am suppose to start EVENITY due to vertabrae fractures.
I am so worried for the side effects & what to go on after the year is up.
Have you had bad side effects? thank you

What age do they start doing bone scans? I have never had one so who knows what my bones are doing?

Medicare covers Dexa scans starting at age 65+ for women, 70+ for men.
I had my first scan at age 47 b/c of my AI diagnosis.

I have not had any side effects from Evenity so far. I will be getting my 8th injection this month.
Be sure and have your dental work up to date. Anything that involves disrupting the jawbone cannot be done while you're on Evenity such as tooth extractions or implant surgery. Plus it's a good idea to go in for regular cleanings/exams to make sure there are no problems while your on it.
My NP is planning on getting me on Prolia (another biologic) starting one month after my last Evenity shot. Prolia is a twice yearly injection that helps prevent bone loss. My NP told me that statistics show that Evenity will build new bone but then once you are off of Evenity bone loss occurs rapidly if another drug such as Prolia isn't given. The few months after your last Evenity shot is most critical b/c that's when the risk of fracture is highest so you need to follow up with another drug to prevent that from happening.
Discuss that follow up drug with your doc. Prolia is just one option. Bisphosphonates such as Fosamax, Boniva, Actonel or Reclast (IV one yearly) are others.
Fosamax, Boniva and Actonel are all oral meds. They can cause stomach issues for some people. The IV Reclast would be a better option in that case for a bisphosphonate med. Prolia is not a bisphosphonate but a biologic and it gets injected like Evenity does.

thank you SilleeMee
Yes I have been to the dentist, I am not a fan of the bone building drugs, but currently recovering from a T-7 vertabrae fracture..I am most concerned about the care after the year. I don't really care for any of the options, but am currently in talks with my Dr.
Good to know you haven't had any side effects, hoping it helps you & the next step after Evenity will also..

@Nightowlz I don't know the answer to that. I turned 65 last year and that Dexascan I had was at least the 4th one for me. I had my first one years ago after breaking my arm Figure Skating and the nurses were saying the dreaded phrase "You're getting to that age". I told them the ice is hard. But, I got a scan showing my bones were in good shape. That was probably around 45-ish.
Since then I've had 3 more scans. Not sure when the 2nd one was, but it was only at my doctor's request. I think they recommend them every 3 years and I do think at least my latest one and the one before were right at about 3 years apart. I know there were many years between my 1st one and my 2nd one.
