My friend just went through the same thing (probably). She's doing fine and is glad she did it.

But she didn't get discharged until almost 4:00pm the next day. Not because of her condition, because the doctor didn't get to her until then. Just FYI.

Good luck!

@I am still oxox

When I know I am staying less than a full day, after a procedure? I take what I wear to the hospital, and wear the same for coming home.

My difference might be because I always wear comfortable clothes, and all the hospital rooms i have stayed in, have a telephone. And, my cell phone is used only for making calls, which is very seldom.

Remember, men are different than women so!

Wishing you the best with your back procedure.

Hope your procedure goes well!

Warm socks from home to wear in bed

Phone and charger

Lip balm, hair brush, small mirror

a pair of undies to wear home with what you wore to the hospital

ball cap to wear home

ipad and charger

reading glasses if you need them

wallet and insurance info...leave all your extra things from your handbag at home.

Take your phone, charger, reading material, comb&brush.  Maybe a cardigan or wrap in case you get cold.  They will provide a toothbrush and soap.  No, they don't charge for those things.

@I am still oxox,

I hope all goes well and smoothly for you.

-I would take a snuggly sweatshirt preferably one with a zipper not pullover

soft pair of pants or loungers if you get cold a lot. (You may not be able to wear them all the time while there for procedures but they are nice when you can).

-wipes for your face, neck and any other area-so nice to have refreshing cool wipes.Sometimes hospitals have some but they are very small.

extra pair of underwear

etra pair of clean socks to keep feet warm (and you don't want dirty ones that were on floor already)

your phone of course and charger

if you like to read-a book

I wouldn't take a laptop or ipad but I know some people don't feel right without it.

I would remove all jewelry. Unfortunately things get lost and sometimes stolen.

some kind of mints or lozenges which help if you are without water for any period of time.

a little notepad and pen to write anything down to remember or  what the nurse or dr says.

extra plastic bag-sometimes the staff can't find them or or they  have run out or it takes them so long to get them.

These sound like a lot but they really are not.

Really anything you think comforts you because staff are usually incredibly busy and unable to get basic things for a long time.

23 hours may seem like a short time and ideally you could sleep but it is very noisy and hard to sleep in hospitals so you may as well bring your won comforts!

Be well and come here when you feel ok and tell us how it went (if you like of course).

You'll probably be groggy and sleeping most of the stay since it's less than 24 hours. Just bring what you usually do or the things from home that make you more comfortable there like a favorite pillow or white noise maker, etc.

Need suggestions on what to take for my comfort.  Thanks much

Don't take anything expensive with you, just because.  If your phone is expensive, give it to whomever is with you.

DO NOT wear any expensive jewelry.  Heck, leave all your jewelry at home.  You don't need it in the hospital.

Take a favorite book if you aren't currently reading something.

I stayed day and night more than a month with someone in the hospital and my observation? Nobody can read in a hospital. People in and out, goings on in the hall, discomfort, heck lay back and enjoy the show if you feel well enough!!!!

Best wishes and prayers for you @I am still oxox

Wishing you a successful surgery and a quick recovery.  So many excellent suggestions for what to bring.  I would likely pack a magazine or two for some quick and light reading.  Take care and let us know how you are doing!

My suggestion is to take comfy, loungewear type clothing, slip on shoes, hand wipes and hand sanitizer along with eyeglass cleaning wipes if you wear glasses.

With both of my knee replacements, I wore t-shirts and soft knit capri pants while I was in the hospital.  I slipped my feet into Birkenstock sandals when I walked and did PT.

Best wishes to you with your procedure.
