Re: Oral Cancer and Tongue Reconstruction

So sorry about your BFF's husband. That was a hard story read. I had pre-op tests today. The surgery will be more involved than initially expected because of the position it is under my tongue. They have to slice my bottom lip in half and down across my chin over to my lymp nodes. Have to break my jaw to reach it also. Many month of healing then radiation. They will actually pulling the skin on that side of my face to reach it. Yes I am a nervous wreck but believe in prayer.

@luvdoodles, I am so sorry that your surgery will have to be more extensive and complicated than originally planned. I said a prayer for you immediately after reading about it.  My sister is being examined and tests done tomorrow at a hospital for something that has developed under her tongue. We are afraid it is a condition that reqires surgery or cancer in which radiation or chemotherapy will also be needed. I'll be praying for you.

Thank you for remembering me in your prayers. I hope things go well for your sister. She will be in my prayers also.  A second opinion is a must also. My first oral surgeon said it was nothing to be concerned about.

@luvdoodles, my heart, thoughts and prayers go out to you!  Reading this is very hard but I know you are feeling so much more than us since you are living it.  Stay brave and take it one day at a time.

Thank you for such kind words. I guess I am over the initial shock of what I found out yesterday. Had a little pity party and cried last night in bed. My attitude now is let's just get this thing over and done with. It could be worse.

@luvdoodles, you're entitled to as many pity parties as you need to get to where you emotionally need to be.  Personally, I think crying cleanses your mind and helps you eventually handle your needs.  It just takes time.  Not easy but you will get there.  Focus on your positive outcome rather than that rough road you will travel.

Re: Oral Cancer and Tongue Reconstruction

So true. Two of my Bff's are dealing with cancer also. Just another type of cancer. We are each others sounding board now. One is my husbands ex but we have gotten along for years now. We are all the same age, 58. Hey I beat BC 20 years ago. Just need to stay positive. They are my role models right now. I have an adorable grandson, 18 months, he keeps me on the right path.

@luvdoodles, thank you so much. I'll tell my sister what you said. You are so brave in this time of dealing with such a frightening medical challenge. Please know that my sister and I will be praying for you every day.  (((((luvdoodles)))))

Re: Oral Cancer and Tongue Reconstruction

@luvdoodles, I do not know anyone who has gone through this.  I am sorry to hear this and am wishing you a quick and easy recovery.  I am sure that this is overwhelming, so I hope everything goes smoothly for you.
