Plain and simple, Bob Costas has an agenda.

He sure does and he wants us all to know it! Plus, he is more intelligent than all of us too! I refuse to listen to him and the eye infection just made me laugh.

Sad that reporters have strayed so far from reporting!

Not to mention they only report what they want you to know.

There are plenty of outlets to watch the Olympics. You don't have to watch NBC if you don't want to. You can stream events online anytime.

Jim McKay was wonderful. He made the events seem as though they were right in your living room.

EVERYTHING about the opening ceremony was geared toward propaganda by the host country. If you don't want to mix sports and world politics then you need to find another thing to watch and you won't have a problem because it seems sports of some sort is on 24/7. Did you like the outfits the US team wore tonight? I thought they were busy and off the mark a little.

Do you think sports isn't political? The WHOLE point of Russia hosting these games is political. Everything is geared and staged to show a repressive society as something it is not. They are passing out the Kool Aid and to not comment on it would be censorship in the worst way of anyone on tv or in print or internet media.

Also, I'm sure Bob and the others covering these events know a lot more about what is going on than we do, and I for one, and glad someone IS talking about it. Also, you can learn an awful lot from people you don't like. It is important on the world stage and we all live there now thanks to the internet.

Politics has always been a major factor in the Olympics. It is part of the package.

Thanks, Sooner. I appreciated this post.

Oh, they're talking about it alright, but they're not being straight about it. Putin's a dictator. His goal is to return Russia and their satillite possessions to communism. But we're not hearing about this.

"Sugar coating" is the term that comes to mind. So thick, however, as to provide the audience with information that is not accurate.

******

You should be able to relate to this: DH took a 6 year contract in Tulsa. We hadn't been in the Tulsa airport for more than 5 minutes upon arrival when the lady sitting next to me said, "You talk funny. You're not from these parts." "No," says I, "I'm from San Francisco." The corker, "Oh, you're a Yankee," she says. "No," says I, "I'm not a Yankee."

Unlike the people at NBC, she was so ignorant, she didn't know any better. NBC knows better.

Bob Costas is one of the most intelligent, well rounded, informed sports commentators we have.

I think he is great.

That being said, I'm glad I live in a border town and can watch the coverage on the CBC...they do entire events and stick to sports, no "heart warming" vignettes about the athletes...

Yes, costas DOES have an agenda - a very liberal one. Praising Putin to the point of being sickening. Costas has always been narcissistic - always.

Many people in this country just can't resist the opportunity to bash Russia. Is Russia perfect? No, far from it but then neither is our own country. We were not a feudal state just a little more than 100 years ago nor did we have that followed by a dictatorship that promised much and delivered little. That is what Russians are trying to overcome. They have never been a true democracy. They do not come from that Western tradition. The Russian people are a great people but are still finding their way into the modern world.

I watched and didn't think he was anything other than a great reporter.

The opening ceremonies are always like that - the host countries always put their best foot forward...it wasn't too long ago when they were in CHINA!!!

Re: Olympic Coverage vs Political Commentary

I am so sick of watching the Olympics and they just started! Everyone going down the hills and then making ""so sad"" excuses why they didn't even place! I thought it got so boring after awhile. As for Bob Costas I have never liked him. Bob is ""all about Bob"" he has to be the center of attention. Once in an interview in Chicago where he was guest Cubs announcer ""he said he was studying his script almost all night"". What supposed sports announcer uses a script ? So far I think the coverage is dull and probably won't watch much more!
