@geegerbee that's difficult. So sorry for your loss.

Laura, live your life. If your mother keeps talking about genetics, ask for a copy of her test results. You can then discuss them with your Dr. Otherwise, tell her thank you for the information and drop the subject.
I am a 3 year endometrial cancer survivor. You need to know your body and report everything abnormal, no matter how little, to your Dr. Don't shrug it off and forget it.

@Laura14wrote:So my mother just texted from her two week check up after her hysterectomy and got the all clear. She had the least aggressive lowest stage endometrial cancer that she was not expecting at all and it's all gone after the surgery. So YAY for that.
Here's where I am going to throttle a medical professional unless some of you other medical pros tell me to take a breath.
The day after her surgery two weeks ago a nurse tells her that her endometrial cancer was probably genetic. I strongly protested against that and told my mother in no uncertain terms that she was not to use that as an excuse not to begin a healthier lifestyle.
Her actions and eating habits absolutely contribute to her health and cancer risk and that was more than likely her reason. Belly fat increases estrogen and is a very high risk factor for the female cancers. Oh and we have no family history at all which I would presume we would if genetics were a huge factor here..
Now another or the same RN tells her today that her mother's cancer (multiple myeloma) which is a bone marrow cancer was very likely caused by a blood transfusion. Excuse me? Since when are blood transfusions a leading cause of cancer?
Am I nuts or is this so called medical staff who I am thinking probably got their medical licenses from a Playskool doctor's kit missing a huge part of biology 101?
Don't blame the messenger.
Your mother has poor eating habits
It may not have contributed to her cancer but that shouldn't stop her from thinking about taking better care of herself. it's up to her, not the nurse and not you.

@Laura14- You know your mother better than anyone. Take what she says and bless it and release it. As it was mentioned by another poster, if you have concerns about your own health, speak with your health care provider.
Since she got the all clear, when will she and hubby be going home?

@RedTopwrote:Based on how your mother has treated you, along with the soap opera drama she has fueled for the family, I would not even get involved in this, period. It’s enough for you to know the information is wrong.
Let your mother handle her own life. Take whatever health information she learns from the testing and passes along to you and your sisters, apply it however you choose to your circumstances, and move forward with your life.
You will never detach and move forward with your life if you continue to feel you need to intervene in situations like this.
Reading all of this, I must say I'm less hopeful about @Laura14 making her own life. There is a lot of enmeshment here --- even more than I realized.
Mom's not even out of the house yet and Laura is back "taking care of" her.
Laura you seem like you are in the Mom role, and your Mom is your pseudo-daughter....it's way past time to cut the cord.
Why are you getting involved?
Sigh.......................
