Obesity: The Post Mortem (the film)

Obesity: The Post Mortem

2016 TV-MA 54m
A team of pathologists performs an autopsy on a clinically obese donor to examine how excess fat damages the human body.

———————

I recently watched this movie on YouTube (and it’s on Netflix).

Various emotions:

🤔 intrigued

🤢 OMG

😳 the harsh reality

😢 sad

🤓 definitely ‘woke’ & sharing the message

The pathology team was so very educational.

Just shows the detrimental effects obesity...and really anyone,

of any weight, with liver issues.  Just YouTube search

’Obesity the post mortem’...free for the watching.

I highly recommend a watch.

But don’t schedule dinner around it.

@sidsmom

How long is the film? Going ice skating in less than an hour and might watch it when I get home. Seen a few similar on the same topic, and they were certainly "eye openers" for sure. Much of them I knew, but some I did not.

I have stood on my soapbox many times in my life about this topic, but only if it was brought up, or someone asked me questions or for suggestions. They usually hear more than they planned when asking. Mine were/are more on the physical fitness aspects of taking "a journey" through losing and/or maintaining a weight that feels right to each individual.

Thanks for this thread and where to view this film.

Re: Obesity: The Post Mortem (the film)

I am 40lbs overweight, and have recently (well 2 years ago) adopted a plant based lifestyle.  I have very slowly been dropping the weight, and but still have higher blood pressure than is ideal. A friend suggested I watch this and boy was it eye opening.  I had to partially close my eyes during some parts as it was just TOO graphic.  But it really made me think about whats going on with my organs....they are having to do so much more work than what they were designed to do.

I am not much more concious now about what I am eating this week, and plan to not eat any vegan junk food.

Watched it....very sad is my reaction to it.  I wanted to know more about her as a person not just the "fat" "disease" aspect.

I also had to look away on some parts....the 1st cutting open and that awful rib/bone cutting tool!  I have watched yrs back a few time that autopsy show...don't think it's on air anymore....could only watch that a few times.

I wonder if things like this truly can have impact on people....what I am saying is smoking is very well known for many decades to be a killer yet people still smoke.  I have a niece who is type 1 diabetic and she smokes and drinks!  I think lot's of people believe it won't happen to me....that only happens to others mind set.

Didn't know there was such a thing as Vegan junk food.

I've seen this listed on Netflix but haven't had the courage to watch it yet.  Thanks for the review @sidsmom, maybe today will be the day I watch it.

And yes, @tsavorite there's a lot of vegan junk food out there.  Whole Foods and Trader Joe's are full of vegan goodies!  I try to stay away, but every once in a while they find their way home with me.

My DH used to photograph and video autopsy’s, so I have seen hundreds of them done on babies Clear up to the elderly.

I was surprised that the hearts of  young people who “ do drugs”  look like those of much older people. They are enlarged.  Smokers do have black lungs, and human fat, looks like chicken fat.  It Is all lumpy and surrounds our internal organs

Sometimes thin people who you would guess are “ fit” aren’t.  You can’t tell by just looking at them what is happening inside. Some very thin people are full of fat and females have more fat than males.

We can all just do our best to be healthy. We are human and not perfect.

Forgot to mention that some obese people die of old age.  There are many obese people in their 80’s and they are still alive and kicking and not bedridden.
