Only me. I have both. The knee first will have to be replaced and then the opposite hip hurts. Has anyone else had bad hip and knee?  Were both replaced?  Did you survive? 😳  Success stories would be great.

Re: New knee and hip 😩😩

@Ditzydori I'm lucky because I've had none of your problems - yet.  But, I have a very good friend who has had 3 (that's right) knee replacements and one hip replacement.

The third knee was because of recurring MRSA problems, and the hip replacement came after that.  She's doing okay now although she's definitely not playing tennis.  Then again, I knew her more than 40 years ago and she never did then either.

I know having all those replacements gives you a long, tough road to walk, but I do hope you will walk comfortably again even before you think you will.

@Ditzydori    I had both knees replaced in 2013.... My left hip replaced in2014...and my right hip replaced this past July 2015.   What do you want to know?...I have been there and done that!

Re: New knee and hip 😩😩

I've been told that a knee replacement is in my future but I pray not. I'm almost bone to bone in my right knee.  My left knee is better.  Keep us informed as to how it goes.

Seems to me that knee and hip replacement surgery is taking the place of hysterectomies.  Baby boomers.

Quiltlady, I have to wait til the middle of December to see my ortho and I thought THAT was too long.  But you have to wait til next February?  Tell me... what is one supposed to do with constant pain for MONTHS?  Anyone?

@Ditzydori

Prayers for you. My neighboor is 88. She has had it all done and one of her knees done twice.  She is well and strong and contantly amazes me.

Re: New knee and hip 😩😩

@spent2much:  It is horrible to have that kind of joint pain.  I had it until I had a THR (total hip replacement) earlier this year.  I could barely walk, and it clouded my outlook on life.  Be patient and persevere.  I feel for you.

@Mmsfoxxie:  easy to say this is bogus surgery, if you have not experienced the chronic pain of bone-on-bone and fused joints, riddled with arthritis.  Imagine your hip no longer able to swivel in the socket.  I chose, and was fortunate enough to be able to, avoidance of being a cripple, in pain, for the rest of my life.

I consider these procedures to be advances in medicine.

@Ditzydori:  get yourself in as good of shape as you can prior to surgery - simple muscle strengthening goes a long way to a faster recovery.  I found bonesmart.org to be a great source of info from first-handers.

@Sweetbay magnolia

Sweetbay, no, I don't think it's bogus surgery.  Didn't mean to imply that.  I might have one soon myself if I get worse.  What I was trying to say was that with so many of us baby boomers, it's as popular as hysterectomies were.  I can see, though, why you misunderstood me.  A lot of hysterectomies back in the day were always suggested for us women, quite a few, according to experts, were not necessary.

I have osteoarthritis in my knees and probably my fingers and feet because they hurt, too.  I'm blessed that at 68, I'm not too bad yet.

Re: New knee and hip 😩😩

My husband had both knees and his left hip replaced in 2013. He was in so much pain he had to do something. He now has no pain and feels great, wished he had done it sooner. Good luck, you will do fine!
