Hi ladies,
previously I have written about myself on this subject. I did go to P.T., a very good one in the city. The first therapist gave me good exercises for strength to do, and have yet to skip a day. Then she turned me over to someone for the lymphodema in my lower legs, and worked on that by massage and putting a Plastic Tube around my legs and had what I called "automatic" massage. Results were very good. Nevertheless although the second therapist claimed it was the lymph. that affected my arthr. knees, yesterday I told her at session 10 (get 12 through Medicare) that I still have a lot of knee pain, i.e., and indeed she responded accordingly, but not in a nice way...
she measure me, legs, and strength and said I had improved but am not consistent, which I know, and said she needed to stop this therapy. she then recommended aquatic therapy with their very comp. and checking this out with my sister (who knows all about Med.) I concluded that I didn't want to go that route and spend what all was allotted, as we are onl;y in the beginning of the year and the total is $1,800.
today, after not sleeping much, i went on the phone and found the only Therapeutic Center here in D.C., where staff is trained and certified by the Nat. Arthritis Foundation, and I jumped for joy. Also, they require a dr. to sign a form, so very responsible, and have every day classes on different levels.
My work, giving 4 hour historic city tpurs will start mid/end April, and I need to be fit and do what i can, to reach that level. Again I am full of hope and after my escipades wanted to share that aquatic training/exercises, but make sure it is NOT aerobics, as that is cardio-minded not arthritis-focussed. My smart nurse sister explained this all, so that's why I share this with you all.
I am still taking anti-inflammatory meds. 500 mg 2/day and have been on there much too long as it isn't good for yur kidneys, so drink lots of water. The turmeric CURAMIN supplements I have started today. And so far, so-so.
This may or may not interest you, but trying to do my homework plus, i am sharing this for that sake alone. Tom. I will c/o the pool and ask questions. Tonight I am attending a free seminar for people like us at George Wash. Hospital (obviously they are trying to p/u new pts.) and I am already pt. at Georgetown University Hospital.
All the best, and look forward to your news and findings.
