I wanted to start a thread to make sure you saw this. If the doctor diagnoses IBS or spastic colon be sure you get a prescription called Hyoscyamine .125mg. This is a very old, cheap generic drug. It stops the spasms which cause the pain. In fact, just ask for it. It won't hurt you. It is invaluable to many of us with IBS. I also go to Kaiser but was diagnosed prior to getting on Kaiser. Many doctors don't pay much attention to IBS bc it's not 'sexy' or interesting. Good Luck.

NG:

What helped my IBS was following my P.A.'s suggestion to stop eating foods with chemicals in them, i.e., "clean eating." My IBS cleared up with about 10 days. I just have to cook a lot now and bring my lunch to work. You get used to it. Now I can even stray on weekends and also eat out w/o ill effects. I hope you a solution; don't give up.

I think I might have IBS, but am not sure yet. Could you tell me some of your symptoms please? Thanks a lot. Smile

My symptoms are gas buildup. I get a big cramp and it keeps me up at night. I have taken a lot of tests and everything is normal, so the doctor called it ibs. I know a lot of people have much worse symptoms than I do. It is still frustrating. I don't know what to eat anymore.

natesgrandma, so sorry to hear that. I feel your pain as I have much of the same problem. Do you eat much yogurt and take probiotics? They helped me immensely. I also take an OTC acidophilus capsule twice daily at my doctor's request. Couldn't do without it. If you can drink peppermint tea, it aids digestion and smooths out some of the cramping and deletes some of the gas. About three cups a day is good.

The food is tough, trial and error is the only way to determine what works. Your nutritionist is your friend there.

As you know, it affects each of us differently, so there is no one pat answer for all of us.

I hope you can find something that gives you great relieve. It's a miserable way to exist.

Do you drink much caffeine? If so, that has to go as it really creates a lot of natural gas problems.

If I can remember others things suggested to me, I'll come back and post them, so check back. Maybe we can drum up something new together to try.

Thanks for your reply. I wish you great relief.

Take care. Smile
