When I worked, I always took a 10-15 minute nap after lunch. I would turn off the lights and turn on my sound machine. Made it easier to face the rest of the day. I worked two jobs so, after my 1:30 lunch, I still had to go until 8:00. Now that I'm retired, the naps last between 15-30 minutes. I leave hard tasks for the afternoons after my nap. After I wake up, it's like I have the energy I have when I first wake up in the mornings. I've never had an afternoon nap stand in the way of my night sleeps. Even if you don't want to sleep, it's still not a bad idea to just stop, turn off all electronics, and let the mind rest.

No naps for me unless I'm sick.

DH and I rest each day after lunch usually around 2 hours.

We are both early risers so after lunch we rest in our recliners.

Bedtime is usually 9-10 pm.

My DH and I both take a rest break after lunch for half to one hour.....read or sleep but rest.  We call it our "union break" 😉.  Sometimes I fall asleep for ten minutes and that is enough...a power nap.  But, I always rest....or as my father used to say...."I'm resting my eyes".   I agree with @LindaSal ...as we get older, listen to your body.  If you are retired you probably have extra time now to "think of yourself"...rest and recharge!  👍

@walker    My dad used to say that, too. 😊😊

Several years ago I was going through a rough patch with debilitating anxiety.  On the weekends I would retreat to my bedroom in the afternoon for some "dark time".  I would just lie in my bed quietly and relax.  Sometimes I would sleep but often I would not but just an hour or so of "dark time" was very helpful for my anxiety.

Oldest DD had reflux as an infant and never slept comfortablly so her naps were brief if she took them at all.  Now as an adult she loves a good nap.

I come from a long line of mappers. Most afternoons I’ll nod off for a while after lunch.

I used to work with accountants who shared an office, they would eat lunch at their desk then afterwards shut off the lights and take a 1/2 hr nap at their desk.  They said it relaxes and refreshes the mind.

I take a nap mostly every day.  No, it's not just for twenty minutes.  It's until I feel like I have rested, then I get up and finish out the day.  Could be an hour or so.

Anyone remember "Our Vines have Tender Grapes"? Edward G. Robinson would have a nap every afternoon. Hubbs loves that film and speaks of it often.
