Re: My new diet has solved many problems but created some new issues

Talk to your dietician, but other than things like tobacco and alcohol when the body craves a particular type of food it's your very smart system signaling your brain that your body needs a little of that thing for scientific reasons I'm not smart enough to fully explain. This includes sugar because we have a chemical need for it. Smart eaters just get it from eating more fruits as opposed to a package of Oreos.

I don't eat meat because the body only needs it for protein and I can get that from other sources, but I eat sugar and carbs, and step on the scale at 100lbs.

Can you eat almonds? I find that crunching a (small) handful of almonds can help eliminate my ""crunch"" cravings and also sweet cravings.

I was like straykatz...I wondered the same thing. I understood nightshades are being eliminated, but if starch/carbs are desired, why not a sweet potato? Not a nightshade. And rice? Both are not nightshades, super filling & guaranteed to satisfy the cravings!

Re: My new diet has solved many problems but created some new issues

I ate sugar and white potatoes when I craved them, and hoisted my 257 pounds onto the scale countless tearful times until finding that carbs in veggies and low-carb fruits are MY friend, refined carbs (and grains) are MY foe. WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT!!!!!!!

I have been watching grains & sugar for years. Have you tried making a muffin with almond flour and/or ground flax? I just had one tonight. I make it in the microwave, but you could make a few and bake in the oven if you prefer. There are probably many different recipes on-line. I usually use a generous teaspoon coconut oil, 2 tablespoons ground flax, 2 tablespoons almond flour, 1 egg, 1/2 teaspoon aluminum-free baking powder, 1 packet NuStevia brand stevia, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (I use ceylon cinnamon), a little vanilla. I stir together in a large mug and microwave about 70 seconds (our microwave it not the most powerful).

You can make unlimited variations on the recipe, adding a few berries, a little chopped apple, cocoa, etc.

I will have to try this - I believe I have all of the ingredients. Thanks!

OP--what veggies are you leaving off? Poor baby! Carb cravings are a bad bad thing.

Nightshades.

I think I could go gluten free in a SECOND if I could keep everything else. I love my vegetables, I cheated once in the two weeks and I regretted it. I never thought healthy food could provoke such an inflammatory response.

I know what you mean. Since my knee pain has virtually disappeared after eliminating gluten I am hoping I won't have to eliminate nightshades.

What you are experiencing is real, and temporary. Check out this link describing the causes of "low carb flu." And hang in there. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/low-carb-flu/#axzz38uezSCxW
