I've had this ongoing problem for years, it's worse now and I don't expect a resolution. Having type 2 diabetes for years, there are certain side effects that never seem to subside.
The diabetes is under control and I am off meds but the numbness and tingling in my feet is permanent. As I sit here my toes constantly tingle and my feet feel numb.
When I saw my physician in January for my annual checkup he placed me on Lyrica to relieve the symptoms but NOPE !!! still there.
Here's my question for anyone with diabetes who has had the same symptoms. Have you found any medication (prescribed by your doctor) that has relieved your symptoms or any solution ? I have also been using Icy Hot Lidocaine roll on but it only helps ease the symptoms a little and for a short time. Has anyone found relief from Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy ?

@Goodie2shoes I've taken Alpha Lapoic Acid for several years, it's kept it at bay for me.

Although not from diabetes, I have had tingles for years. Go back and ask for an alternative prescription. There are several. I did find one to suit me.

If Lyrica isn't working for you, then I would check back in with your doctor again to see what else you can do regarding medications.
It's difficult dealing with peripheral neuropathy. I have it in my feet, legs, arms and hands.
I also use over-the-counter supplements as well to help with being more comfortable with the nerve activity.
For supplements, I also take Alpha-Lipoic Acid, and Magnesium Malate.
As recommended, I would talk to your doctor about any supplements that you try/take.
I'm sorry that you're dealing with this too, as I understand the discomfort that you're feeling. ![]()
I wish you the best, and I hope that you can find something that gives you some relief. ![]()

So sorry you are dealing with it in both upper and lower extremities. I appreciate the feedback from everyone and I read up on the suggestion of Alpha-Lipoic Acid. I will certainly check with my MD on trying your suggestions. Thanks again and best wishes for control of your symptoms as well. I only have symptoms in my feet and can't imagine what you are dealing with !

My husbands podiatrist took it upon himself to prescribe some $50+ a month supplement for this issue without telling him or discussing it with him.
You need a prescription for it and it only comes from an on-line pharmacy. If you're interested it's called EB-N6. You could ask your doctor about it.
We don't know if it works, he decided against taking any more pills and it's not covered by Part D drug plans.

I had neurophathy in my feet and my fingers/tips after finishing chemo in 2012 and my onc dr told me that if it continues past 18 months, I'll prob have it forever. Well it has in my finger tips but it stopped in my feet--I tried many of the stuff mentioned here, including the supplements --nothing worked and the meds made me feel worse. Nerves take FOREVER to heal --if they ever do. This many years out, my fingertips just feel numb and a tiny bit of a tingle. Zip top bags are the bane of my existence!!! Cannot open them to save my soul. My brother has the feet neuropathy and takes gabapentin that does ok for him. but there are so many drugs now----not sure that is good or bad.

I don't have diabetes but my two big toes have been numb for years. Doctors haven't been able to figure out why. The assumption is that it's due to the lumbar spinal stenosis I have. A disc is affect a nerve. But a couple of docs disagreed because the disc thing wouldn't affect big toes on both feet. It hasn't changed or gotten worse so I don't think about it
