I had daily migraines throughout my 20's and 30's into my 40's.
My OBGYN told m that I would LOVE menopause because they would stop and he was RIGHT!
So now in my 70's I can more objectively look at and analyze what my triggers were.
So here they are:
1) anything ANYTHING that caused swelling (which includes inflammatory foods such as salt and chocolate
2) hormonal
3) weather/pollen
4) car rides
5) eggs
6) dairy (many)
Excedrin has always helped me and it's the caffeine in it that I credit.
My migraines were mostly pain...some visual disturbances...often nausea. It was as if my body just shut down...everything stopped. What always worked was lying down in a dark room. Sleep always worked too. So my immunologist rx'd something that literally knocked me out and made me sleepy.
Caffiene , cold and dark certainly help. Sometimes a coke slushy makes me feel a tiny bit better. Sometimes I get so nauseous I can't sleep. But if I can, it's somewhat of a reboot. A former colleague used to go nap in his car if he felt a migraine coming. You've given me some stuff to think about. Thank you!

@Squirrels Are Trash NOPE! Both control "pain." Sinc you have severe nausea w/your painless migraines, ask your treating physician about "Promethazine."
When I first started seeing my migraine specialist, she asked me if I had nausea w/my migraines. I told her no but, I do have severe nausea when flying & cruising. She prescribed Promethazine (low dosage) 12.5 mg. That dosage worked like a charm for me. Sounds like you may need 25 mg which is the 2nd highest.
Your migraine treating physician a neurologist?

Oh you poor dear, I'm so sorry for you! That sounds absolutely miserable!
I used to suffer from Migraines a bit but my husband had them bad!
So much so that he told me years later that he could see how people in major, chronic pain like that could just give up on life....which shocked and alarmed me.
Once they started he had to lay in bed with a pillow and cold packs over his eyes and forehead in total darkness and just suffer and try to sleep until it passed. He had the nausea as well.
The only medication that worked for him and he tried all the prescription medication was OTC Excedrin Migraine (as others have mentioned) and it had to be the Excedrin. It's the mix of aspirin, acetaminophen and caffeine that's magic. He also had to take it at the first signs of a migraine or it was of no use because if he waited too long he theorized that it just wasn't being digested and taken into his body because of the nausea, etc.
Also, at the time, in trying to find natural remedies I came across studies suggesting that Mg deficiency may be a culprit in some people's headaches and migraines so I started him on extra Mg and that greatly, greatly decreased his migraines! It was kind of miraculous, really.....so give that a try. It may help you.
Hopefully, you can find some answers! Keep us posted. Hang in there!

I am 74 and have never had a migraine until this year. They are not bad. I do have pain, nausea and I get lightheaded but what is more troubling to me is the aura. The first time I got it I thought I was having a stroke. Could not see, it was like a kaleidescope and lasted I don't know how long. The doctor called it an occular migraine and said it was probably about 10 minutes. He ordered a lot of tests on me. Thankfully everything was negative. But, I continue to get the auras, but rarely do I get the headache. Twenty one years ago I had a detached retina, so when I get white or silver flashes it scares me. But with these auras I get flashes (sometimes colored ones), sparks and double vision. Only several times did I get a headache. Just wondering if that is soon to come, too.

Mine were hormonal and I was lucky because I went thru the change around age 40. I tried injectables a couple times, but had trouble doing that plus at the time they were pricey ( going back 30 years ago, now.). My issues were terrible nausea and eye pain.So I did have them for awhile after and then they quit. I must say though that now I get nasty tension headaches that seem just as bad.

I don't want to be all doom and gloom, but... I had auras for years before exhibiting other migraine symptoms. When I was a kid, I would have visual distortion and have to nap to make it disappear. The migraines that kicked my behind didn't start until my late 40s. The super nausea/dizziness began at 50. Hopefully, yours won't continue down that path. Thank you for sharing your migraine experience.

@Squirrels Are Trash Not just nausea, but my heart was racing and I broke out in a sweat. I do still have some of those old darvocets. I hold onto any pain med that doesn't make me sick. I'm not concerned about it being expired.
Once, I suddenly started having some pain which I thought was probably kdney stones. It was after hours, but I was able to speak to my doctor and he thought it sounded like that too. He asked if I had any pain medication in the house and I told him yes, but it would be expired. He told me to take it. I did, and it took me through the night. By morning, I guess the stone was gone since I wasn't having pain anymore.
