I might be the opposite of what you are looking for. I know a number of people who have used it and have gotten good night sleep afterwards. My siblings lived in China when I was getting married. They came home for my wedding and the two that lived there were taking it to get used to the time change.

The night before I got married I was unable to fall asleep. So they said take one -- I did. A few hours later I awoke with welts and my lips were swollen. Not a good look on your wedding day. I was itching all over. I was allergic to melatonin. I learned not to take something new on the night before you get married.

Fortunately I took a Claritin and was able to get a bit more sleep. In the morning I called my doctor and she told me to take another allergy pill.
It did subside but I can still see the effects in some of the pre-wedding photos.

So, I have not taken it since that time.

I've taken it but couldn't tell if it was doing anything so I decided to try a sleep aid from Walmart. Their brand. It says non addictive on the bottle and it's very inexpensive. I think it's probably some type of antihistamine though I'm not sure. It's worked well for me. It was actually recommended to me from someone else. The only problem I've had is finding it. It must be pretty popular.

Target sells the same generic sleep aid and it's cheap.  It's Diphenhydramine - which is the ingredient in Benedryl that makes you sleepy. I'm guessing CVS and Walgreens sell a cheap generic as well

Oh  my dear @gidgetgh . I am sorry sad to read this. I will keep you both close in my prayers. I hope eveything gets better .You both have been through so much. I have such admiration for you. This has been so difficult, and I remember how kind you were to me when Mr Cherry had his fall

@cherry -thank you. Very difficult and sad times for sure. Stress city.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Benadyl will dry out your mouth and nasal passages

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive what could go right.

No luck with it for me either!  Trazadone worked ok for about a month, Ambien is the only thing my dr and I have found that helps me.  A couple times a week a third of one gets me to sleep.

you and dh will be in my prayers.

I also had no luck with either of these either.  Ambien does work but I tend to do things in my sleep -eating, ordering from QVC! that I don't remember doing in the morning.

I went to the pharmacy once to buy some and the pharmacist said oh you can't take this with one of the meds I was taking so I never bought it. Glad he told me that.

I used to take the night time nyquill in the liquid and it worked so well but someone told me that it wasn't good with high blood pressure so I quit.

I don't take anything now and I sleep great.
