I recently treated myself to the app Head Space. I'm learning to relax and it's good. Calm is another app that gets good reviews.

Years ago (1981?) I was fortunate to stumble into a Ivengar yoga class where the instructor had us do a session of Restorative at the end of class. I still belong to a closed class and she does one full night of Restoratve a week.
Learning meditation took me thru childbirth and still works at the dentist and for things like needle biopsy. And falling asleep!
I would encourage you to look into a class. A group and a leader's voice are wonderful.
A beginner Ivengar class is very gentle.

I have the Calm app on my phone. We discuss the many benefits of meditation in my wellness group. I know intend to be tense a lot but meditation doesn't come easy for me.

I'm so depleted and agitated over current events that I really need to amp up my practice. Thank you for bringing this topic up.
I need to get back to full-on, silent meditation. I use the free Insight app but have veered into "lazy" meditation, i.e., listening to music or guided meditations. The guided ones are good, don't get me wrong. But I find better results when starting with a short guided meditation to tune in, then using the timer to sit in silence and work on letting the thoughts go away and relaxing the mind.
When I'm doing that daily I find a much more even keel. No cursing at other drivers, getting overly aggravated at work, less headaches even.

Wonderful suggestion for a book, long ago it was one of the first. Still one of the best and basically the method my classes follow.
As as a fan, think you will chuckle about the summary I heard: "Tell those two idiots bickering in your head to shut up!" 😂

Meditation is very hard to do. I've been trying and mostly failing for years. Took classes etc. My mind is a non-stop train going 90 mph.

I am also finding this very hard.
