I definitely understand those of you who have never had the flu and never got the flu vaccine. I envy you! However, I've had the flu a few times in my life (before the flu vax was popular) and would do almost anything to avoid feeling that sick again. So I get my flu shot every year and hope for the best. DH and I have been getting the senior dose every year and get no reactions to it. So for me it's an easy choice.

@kitcat51 What symptoms did you have with the reaction?

Have never had a reaction to any flu shot. I got the senior dose with no issues. In fact, a nurse once told me to let my arm dangle loose when getting a shot, and since then I never even get a sore arm. I had no reaction to the RSV vaccine or any of the 7 Covid shots I got either. Lucky I guess.

@Mindy D It started with pain in my hips that moved up into my back, neck & down into my legs, then my legs became weak & I couldn't lift my feet to walk, had to shuffle....when I arrived at Urgent care I was pale & breathing was labored too. I've had reactions from antibiotics before but nothing like that, it scared me.

@Isobel Archer wrote:Way back in the 70's I got a swine flu shot - I was in bed for a week - fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, etc. I didn't get another flue shot for 25 years - and never got the flu.
Then I started getting pressure from the doctor and family and started getting them again.
Then came COVID and I got the "vaccine." After the second shot, I experienced fever, chills, nausea, vomiting etc. What was worse, was the extreme exhaustion I felt - for over 6 months. Of course the doctor said it couldn't possibly have anything whatsoever with the shot. I also got tinnitus - which I still have and which also I'm told has nothing to do with the shot.
I was never an anti-vaxer, but I may be getting there.
@Isobel Archer My brother got tinnitus so bad that he had an MRI to see what was wrong. They couldn't find anything but he did have the covid vaccine shortly before his issue. He still has tinnitus but has learned to live with it.
He doesn't believe that the vaccine had anything to do with his tinnitus because we were all reassured that it was "safe & effective" by the authorities.

Other than the covid vaccine I have never had any reaction to a vaccine except a sore arm. That is until last year when I got my flu shot and a pneumonia vaccine at the same time. I felt like that miserable covid shot all over again. I don't know if it was the pneumonia vaccine or the fact that I got two things at once, but I won't be doing that anymore.

@haddon9 Tinnitus is listed as a possible side effect, but they make it sounds like it is immediate and temporary. Mine started a couple months after my second dose and it's still here three years later. We'll never know the truth.

@VanSleepy I fear we'll never know the truth when it comes to a lot of things. Oh well just do the best that you can and research anything that is questionable to you when it comes to your health and well being.

I did get my Novavax covid shot yesterday, thats' the newest one--and a big fat zero as far as side effects, even my arm is not sore at all, just a tiny red spot on it!! I was getting Moderna and the 2nd one kicked me to the ground and stomped on me but the others ones weren't bad just the soreness. This one was a very pleasant surprise!!

Medicare is approving the RSV shots! I received mine last week at Walgreens for no charge.
Sorry about your angst with the flu and Covid shots. Wonder if it was too much for your system to handle at once? I thought about doing that, but decided with all the meds taken and my crazy immune system, I might be wise to do them a day apart! It worked with Covid and flu . . . and RSV was done a week later. No problems with any of the shots . . . and I received a $20 credit for each one at Walgreens. Too bad I seldom shop there; that credit may wait a long time to be used!
