Even though I'm a senior, I just get the "regular" dose flu vaccine and don't have any problems. Nor have I gotten the flu since getting the shots.
Likewise. The "senior dose" is way too much for me. The regular flu shot is fine.

I was quite sick last year after the senior shot and forgot to tell them to give me the regular one, but this year had no issues with it.

I have nothing good to say about that "senior dose" flu vaccine. I had that vaccine 2 years ago and was sick for 2 or 3 days afterwards. No diarrhea, but a multitude of other things and I swore that would be the last shot I'd ever have! I sure hope you start feeling better...my heart goes out to you!

I have never had a flu vax and I never will. I have also never had the flu. The last vax I ever had was when I was a child and had to get them to start school, back in 1960. No Vax for me of any kind. Also, only had a slight case of Covid.

I had mine day before yesterday and I was up from 10 pm till 7 am with some of the worst diarrhea I've ever had in my life. It was so bad I contemplated making a bed in the bath tub. It's like it didn't have a turn-off on the faucet. It's called the senior dose. I'm exhausted. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the flu shot? Neither DH or I have ever had this happen before.
I am so sorry this happened to you @jubilant . I only take the regular shot as the senior shot made me sick a couple of years in a row.
I think with our weakened immune systems from heart disease, it's probably why everything hits us so hard. Still praying for you and think of you often.💕💐
Hi @Trinity11 I think of you often, too and you are on my prayer list.
I see a new heart doctor tomorrow. My hematologists made a suggestion to add Warfarin to the Brilinta. My blood is so thin now that I don't think I'm going to do it. She did say there is no right or wrong decision. I am pretty bruised all over the way it is and my family doctor raised his eyebrows when he heard this...I got the feeling, though he didn't say so...that he wasn't on board with it.
Tomorrow, I will discuss it with my new heart doctor.
Next time, I'm taking the regular shot, too!
Brilinta with warfarin? Warfarin is an outdated drug I was told, as you need constant blood tests and cannot eat most vegetables. I even cannot take Plavix now as I had breakthrough bleeding from it. I just take an 81mg aspirin daily. Plus the prescription blood thinners make me exhausted.
Let me know how things go with your doctor visit. I will say an extra prayer that you can just stay on one blood thinner or at least one with fewer side effects @jubilant .
Warfarin is NOT outdated. My husband takes it and the only thing he can't eat is anything with Vitamin K, which is most green veggies. I mean, he could eat them, but would have to eat them continuosly so as not to cause clots.

I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad reaction! Whatever caused it sounds like a miserable time.
I got my first ever flu shot today. I thought I would get one last year, but I got the flu first. I was very sick and my head stayed stuffy for a couple months afterwards, which is what I think led to my getting vertigo!
I asked for the regular shot but was told because I turned 65 this year I had to get the senior shot or my insurance might not pay for it, so I got the senior. Now I see lots of you asking for the regular one and getting it.
I'm nervous about how I'm going to feel later, and always worry about any longterm effects! It feels like a no win situation with all the stuff that goes around, and then reactions from the vaccines.
I was also told it's not going to prevent catching the flu, just minimize the symptoms if I do get it. I'm happy to see some people saying it didn't affect them and hope that I will be able to say the same!

Tell your Dr what happened, they may advise not to take again. I had my first senior flu shot in 2019, had a serious reaction that sent me to Urgent Care...I was advised not to take it again. I haven't gotten any shots of any kind since, that reaction scared my socks off.

@BirkiLady wrote:If the flu shot was the culpret, everyone else who received a flu shot the same day (or from the same batch of vaccines) would have also had the same reaction . . . and probably contacted the Pharmacist who provided the shot. If he/she has not had others with the same complaint, it would appear you have had food poisoning and need to rethink all foods consumed during the 48-60 hours prior to the flu shot.
What did you eat? Where did you eat? Was anything fixed at home from leftovers? What did you eat than your husband did not? You'll narrow it down and figure out what was eaten to cause your problem.
Next year, be careful with foods and drink a lot of water prior to any of your shots! Dehydration can cause all kinds of problems, too. Please don't give up of your vaccines, which protect you and others throughout the winter months.
Consider it a tough "learning lesson" in life, but don't dwell on it. You are protected and, fortunately, feeling much better! (Remember to go over the foods you ate prior to having the shot for clarity of food poisoning.)
@BirkiLady @Respectfully, the contention that if one person has a reaction, such as diarrhea, everyone that day will also have that reaction can be true in some cases, but usually is not true. Sometimes these reactions are caused by bad batches, and then you would see multiple reactions, however, vaccine reactions can affect single patients. Additionally, if the vaccine or the needle is contaminated with microbes or other contaminants, your contention would be much more likely.
It can also true that these illnesses, such as the diarrhea the OP had, have nothing to do with the vaccine and are just coincidental.

Ive never had a flu shot but have known alot of seniors who warn not to get the senior shot. They mention alot of nasty side effects.

I never had any side effects other than arm soreness which lasted about a week. I took a Tylenol. About 30 years ago, I had a bad case of the flu. I was very sick for two weeks. Then I got pneumonia in one lung and was deathly ill. Just as I was recovering, I developed pneumonia in the other lung. Took awhile but I recovered except that I couldn't keep solid food down for two months after that. My doctors couldn't explain that. All taken together I lost 60 pounds. I lost muscle and physical therapy. And I lost my job. Yup.... I get a flu shot every year.
