Re: May Never Get Another Flu Shot

@jubilant

I am sorry...that shouldn't have happened.

'Hope you kept the paperwork to report that lot number to the FDA. Hope it wasn't contaminated.

I won't be getting any shots again. I'm done.

Re: May Never Get Another Flu Shot

Neither DH nor I have ever had a flu shot.  DH has had the flu twice--nothing serious--and I've never had it.  It is my understanding that the vaccine is less than 50% effective. I've gotten more skeptical about these vaccines in the past few months.

Re: May Never Get Another Flu Shot

Wow! sorry that you had such a bad reaction. I am not old enough to receive the senior shot, so I get the regular vaccine. I have never had that type of reaction.

I also get reactions to all these many shots. The worst for me is the RSV. Fever, chills, etc.

Re: May Never Get Another Flu Shot

My husband gets a flu shot every year.

I watch how he reacts to the flu shot every year. I have never gotten a flu shot.

This year was the worst reaction for him. He got the shot right before we went away on vacation. The poor guy spent over a day in bed and decided he wanted to go home. So we cut our vacation short.

He was so tired and not feeling well, he didn't want to walk to another building in the complex to eat. He was too tired. I brought food to him. But he still didn't have an appetite. He spent the day under all the blankets even though it was in the 80s outside and we raised the temperature in our room.

He thought maybe it was Covid but he took a test and it was negative.

I am sure he got a senior shot, since he is in his 70s. But I feel so bad for him. Watching him being so sick and tired, doesn't make me want to get a flu shot either..It took him well over a week to start feeling better.

I never got the flu. Where I worked we got 2 weeks off during the year, no sick time. So people came into work sick all the time. I figured if I didn't get the flu all the years that I worked there, I wasn't going to get the flu. And so far it has worked well for me.

Re: May Never Get Another Flu Shot

I have gotten a shot every year since I was in college, they possiblly do not do much for me since I have a compromised immune system

@jubilant  I had the senior shot early one morning and by lunch I felt absolutely horrible with stomach pain and nausea, fever and chills.  The next day the nausea was gone but I was lethargic.  The third day I felt fine.  I went to the health department for the shot.  I've never had a reaction like it.  Next year I will not get the senior shot.

Yes...I am lethargic today. I didn't have a fever but was chilled. My tummy was just a little upset...no appetite today. Thanks for sharing.

@jubilant , @Jaspertimes,

I got the sr flu shot last year and was sicker than any covd, tetanus or any vaccine ever.

I won't get it again.

I'd only gotten one flu shot 4 years ago and it was the regular one and that was ok.

Everyone is completely different and everytime a dr says "it wouldn't cause that" you can often look up side effects and sure enough, there they are!

A recent internest told me that when you have immune deficiency things, vaccines may affect you more, esp the shingrix. But I know some who were fine with it and all vaccines.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine and was so happy had no reactions at all!

Diarrhea is one of the side effects of the sr flu vaccine amoung many others.

Re: May Never Get Another Flu Shot

@jubilant - After all that you have recently been through, I am so sorry to hear you had such an experience, likely due to the senior (high dose) flu shot. We are all different. Our microbiomes are entirely different, and our age, our present physical condition, our immune system status, etc. make us all respond and react in different ways to just about everything we eat, drink, or inject into ourselves. We metabolize things differently, too. What is toxic to one person may be fine for another person, or at least it might not produce similar symptoms in that other person.

We are all so lucky we have mechanisms to get rid of things that our bodies consider toxic, such as the ability to vomit, to sweat, to express tears, and to expel diarrhea. I am glad you got rid of whatever was perceived of as harmful by your body. You definitely needed to get rid of something. (Before a friend of mine required valve replacement heart surgery, she was sweating profusely every night, drenching her pajamas.)

I hope you feel tremendously better soon! Go with your gut (no pun intended). You know your body better than anyone else, and you always will. You are the expert of your own body. Rely on your own inner wisdom.

Re: May Never Get Another Flu Shot

There are four different types on influenza .  A, B,C & D and many subtypes.

Every year, scientists take an educated guess as to what type of virus will rear it's ugly head and make a vaccine to combat that virus.

Sometimes, they are lucky and get it right and sometimes they're way off base.

If you get the vaccine and a different type of virus finds you, you will get the flu.  There is no vaccine for types C and D or avian flu, plus a few other viruses that mimic flu symptoms.

It is always hit or miss and hold your breath.

I have never had the flu or the vaccine and don't intend to get one anytime soon.

There is a lot of info on the CDC website that goes into detail.  It is interesting.
