Several days ago my daughter had surgery because of a bowel obstruction. She told me something I have never heard of, hopefully those with medical knowledge can explain the following to me.
After the surgery when she was back in her room she was told she had "A General Anesthesia Reversal" is this common or is it because there was a problem with her waking up? Both of us are curious about it, thanks in advance for response.

Certain medications are given to help the patient wake up after surgery faster and with less grogginess.

Found this by doing an internet search:
Reversal of anesthetic effect is indicated when the anesthetic effect is no longer required or a patient is markedly sensitive to an anesthetic and the anesthetic effect needs to be reduced or reversed.

An example of this is when we have a colonoscopy, which commonly uses propofol as an anesthesia (think Michael Jackson commonly used, then overdosed from), then after the colonoscopy, they use an anesthetic reversal drug to wake you up quicker, so they can move on to the next patient/colonoscopy.
This is how my GI Dr. explained it to me anyway.

@KingstonsMom Thanks for this info. I always wonder why I wake up so soon after the procedure.

The least amount of time we can spend under General anesthia
is best, unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Best to your DD.

@Drythe ...Thank you, she is doing well and went back to work today. She didn't stop from the moment she arrived home from the hospital no matter how many times I advised her to take it slow and easy.
