I was to have a TKR Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. As the nurses were prepping me they noticed bright red skin (where I had had cellulitis late summer/early fall). Anesthesiologist had been in to do preliminary work-up, came back in and put his tray up and felt the legs. Surgeon was in middle of hip replacement so I was moved to end of surgery schedule. While going to the bathroom, the anesthesiologist came in and got his tray and left.
Surgeon came in and detected slight variation in temperature of skin on legs. Right leg (where I had had cellulitis) was slightly warmer and he cancelled surgery. So now I am on an antibiotic and once it is cleared, must wait another month after that to make sure it is completely gone.
So glad the nurses (earthly angels) caught it. And, very grateful the surgeon said we should check it out before doing the surgery. I am disappointed, but feel grateful for the good medical people I have taking care for me.
So, THANK YOU, for all of you who are or have been in the medical field.
