I have had an infection in my knee replacements three times. It is infected again, and there is no way for the surgeon to put in another knee. He wants to do a "fusion". I know I would never be able to move my knee again, but I think it beats the alternative. (amputation) Has anyone had or know anyone who has a fusion? How do they get along? I am having surgery, and having a spacer put in for now. It will buy me some time. Of course, I plan on getting a second and third opinion on the fusion. Thank you in advance.

I had a friend who had her knee fused before there were knee replacements. She also had the complication of deformed legs due to polio so I'm not sure what was polio & what was the fusion. She walked with the special polio canes that had supports on her arms, but she got around fine. She drove with an attachment on her car. She had movement in her ankle so had sort of a rolling gait. My ankle is fused with no flexibility, so I know it changes how you walk and your shoes. Best of luck to you.
