I really think that as far as society is concerned - people over 65 don't matter anymore. My doctor told me I don't need Paps anymore. But we can still get cervical cancer!

ugh.

She was diagnosed over a year ago.  She has already been thru treatment.  She has a huge family history of many types of cancer and has always kept us with exams.  She caught this early and is doing well.  Another reminder to all of us for early detection.

@brandiwine - she was diagnosed in June of this year, 3 months ago.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

I am 69.  At age 62 I was diagnosed with Stage One BC.  I always have had YEARLY mammograms.  If I had skipped that year who knows how much the tumor would have grown?  Mine was caught very early, was very tiny (less than 1 cm) and did not spread to lymph nodes.  I had  lumpectomy, radiation and tamoxifen.  So far so good.  SO ladies I say BS to those who say a woman does not need mammo yearly after a certain age.  Get them yearly!!!!

My Mom was diagnosised with Stage 1 agressive breast cancer at 75 on a routine mammogram.  Luckily it was found early.  A lumpectomy was performed followed by chemo.  She also took chemo drug by mouth for the following five  years.

My sister is 68 and was just diagnosed with breast cancer last month. It was caught during a routine mammogram. No other breast cancer history in our family.

KC breast cancer was detected by a sonogram after her mammogram due to her dense breast tissue.

I hope that the poster here occasionally would explain that her mother in her 80s had a hip replacement, and had no idea of she having  breast cancer ....until the physician/ surgeon FOUND this RARE type of breast cancer, ONLY  by taking an xray as a follow up for hip, THEN discovered she HAD a ___stage at a dangerous level___, and did NOT have a clue.  She died not too long after that. I believe that was THE exact set of truth how IT was found.

82, I believe!

I was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple months ago.  it is stage 2A.  I have had one chemotherapy treatment.  I am supposed to have 5 more, then a lumpectomy and radiation.  I am told it can be curable.

My doctor tells me the recommendations stop at age 75.  Strange because the incidence goes up with age.  I had a terrible experience with the chemo.  Ended up in the hospital for 5 days.  Dr. is going to change the regime.  Still getting symptoms from it.  Hope anyone else doesn't have it happen to them.

Consider yourself at high risk.  Family history - especially mother, sister, or daughter, puts you at high risk.

I am 63 and was diagnosed with breast cancer this past June after a followup mammogram in December. I underwent a mastectomy in July, no chemo or radiation is needed. The cancer was caught early but I have started an estrogen blocking drug that is recommended for 5 years. My onco score is 18.
