Besides icing, elevate the wrist when sitting with a few pillows under your forearm and wrist.

@Luvsmyfam Best wishes for a speedy recovery and some hope. I broke my wrist a few years ago, no surgery, and I was out of a cast in three weeks. The doctor said he trusted me since I was a girl to take it off early. Here's hoping you get just as lucky. 🍀

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that. It must be upsetting and frustrating not to be able to work for so long, especially during the holidays. I hope the pain subsides. As far as a faster recovery, it depends on age and physical condition. I remember when I had surgery a few years back and had a long recovery, I too was wanting to get better quick. The doctor told me to sleep as much as I could, because the body heals and repairs itself at rest. I did that, along with reading some good books, and the time went by faster than I thought. Before long, I was recovered. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Why is it painful? Didn't they prescribe or suggest something for pain? When I fractured my wrist, years ago they gave me prescription strength Motrin. I got it crsyrd and set the day it happened. So I only had pain for 2 or 3 days. It was my dominant arm but I only missed a week of work. I taught myself how to function with just my left hand during that week. There were just a couple of things I needed help with at home and at work. I missed driving the most. Twenty years and I still have some minor deficits with that hand.

I broke my wrist when I was in college. It only hurt the 1st day. My family had a natatorium (a swimming pool inside the house) & I have pics my dad took of me in the pool with a plastic bag tied over my cast. I went to classes and did most of the regular things by adapting.
People at the office where I worked came into work with casts, slings, etc. Perhaps your employer(s) will be accommodating.
I wish you a speedy recovery. What a blessing it is that your grandson is there and that he's helping you.

@Luvsmyfam Praying for a Christmas miracle for you and that you heal quicker than expected. As stressful as it is to slow down when you feel you have so much to do, always remember you need your body to heal, and in order to do that, it needs rest.
