I've been putting it off for a couple of years, but my hearing is getting worse. I cannot see spending $3000-$4000 for hearing aids. Does anyone have hearing aids that don't cost a fortune and work? The vanity in me also wants them to be almost invisible. HA!!

@nanny24 ... Oh I'm sorry. My brother and my uncle both have one hearing aid and both said they still can't hear out of that ear! Actually my brother, 80, needs them in both ears because l have to talk so loud to him. He said he can't hear out of one ear at all and can barely hear out of the ear with the hearing aid. I don't think he's getting one for the other ear.
Gosh! Such a shame the things that happen to us as we age. Good luck to you.

I've worn hearing aids from Costco for three years. They are barely visible and help a lot. It is very hard for me to hear without them.

I've been wearing hearing aids about 15 years. Around here (NYC) the price runs about $6000 a pair .... and replaced about every 5 years.
Do OTC hearing aids have various functions e.g. telecoil, microphone, volume controls, Bluetooth, remote control, etc.?

@nanny24 OTC hearing aids are only suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss as determined by audiological testing by a qualified person. If possible, I suggest hearing evaluation and fitting of a hearing at a university where there is a graduate program in audiology where quality clinical services and lower costs may both be svailable.

I've worn hearing aids for probably close to 20 years. I have a significant loss and I've been getting my aids through my audiologist. They usually get replaced every 3-5 yrs., as long as there's been two generations in technology. In between, my audiologist will make the proper adjustments as needed, as diagnosed through my annual hearing test with him. My current pair, that I bought a year ago, were just under $7,000 and worth every penny. They're my first pair of rechargeables. I wasn't sure I'd like rechargeables but it's been great. The aids came with a charger that also has a sanitizer & dryer. My audiologist also gifted me a second charger for travel. I tried Costco aids before I bought this pair and I hated them. What they don't tell you about Costco aids is the reason they are cheaper is because they don't have the most recent/current/UTD technology. They're usually a couple of years behind. Plus the person who fits you is not a licensed audiologist but what they call a hearing specialist - NOT the same thing. There are more things related to proper hearing than just volume. I will never go the cheap route. My hearing is way too important to me than to do that.

@JeanLouiseFinch ... That's wonderful your hearing aids are helping you. I'll mention this to my brother. I don't know how much he paid for his. I like to tease him by saying that he can't leave all his money to his kids and to spend more on himself so buy better hearing aids! He's 80 and still works in his office selling investments and does tax returns. He's a CFP and none of us can believe he's 80! He doesn't look it or act it. Not a single wrinkle on his face, goes walking with his wife. She teaches yoga and throws 100 basketballs every day, exercises on her mat and they both play pickleball on their driveway! Amazing couple! Sorry l got carried away talking about them!! He did tell me that he's slowing down though. I'm 75 and I'm not active like they are!!

@nanny24 I've had mine for 7 years now. I went through an audiologist and got tested. I actually got a flyer in the mail for a clinic that was opening and they were having a new patient sale. So after years of people ribbing me about my inability to hear I decided to get tested. Yes mine were several thousand but they are the rechargeable Bluetooth kind. They go over my ear and with my hair you can't see them. I actually feel younger with them as I have stopped asking people to repeat what they've said, I can hear the tv and music in the car at a normal volume and actually hear and participate in conversations. Good luck!! It is weird at first because it was almost a sensory overload for me the first time I wore them. I was hearing so much I never knew I missed!. I control mine through my iPhone.
