@Icegoddess -----I have taken just about all of the statins in my 40+ years history taking of statins--- I am well versed in that drug---all gave me the muscles aches as you described. Was on Niaspan for awhile that did fantastic but then had breast cancer and decided that with all the poison being pumped in to me, I would put that on the back burner--tried it again and had horrible side effects. What works for some, does not work for others.

I did steroids a few times in the late 90's for sinus infections and always gained a ton of weight.  Absolutely refused to take them for a decade +++ since until this past June.  I could not get over the sinus infection so I agreed to take them for three days.  I continued my daily exercise biking because I knew I would gain weight.  One day I squatted down to get something out of the fridge and saw my thighs.  They were a football linebacker thighs.  I would have been better off being completely still for the three days then having those muscles on top of my other muscles.  Finally got the body back to normal but I will now never do them again.  I cannot imagine 3 years.  Awful drug.

I have an AI disorder, too. Although conventional treatment often includes them, my rheumy has never put me on steroids and says their long-term effects are not good for me.  I believe her.

She's right.
