Why did you not make a doctor appointment to get the flu shot? That is where i got my flu shot,I wonder if people not masking, and washing hands has  a play in this.

Re: I Think I Have The Flu

[ Edited ]

@Kachina624 - I hope you feel much better very soon.  The last thing you need right now is an injection of any kind.  You are figthing something, either bacterial or viral, and it is causing you malaise with sweating and chills, and that means fever.

If you cannot find drugstore antivirals to assist you in reducing your viral load (if it is indeed a virus), I hope you have some tea (black and green tea, in particular) to make for yourself to drink, as tea has important antiviral plant flavonoids in it (like theaflavin and EGCG).  Honey is a major antibacterial, so I hope you have that, too. Known antivirals are Holy Basil, Oil of Oregano, Astragalus, Quercetin, Olive Leaf Extract, Garlic, Monolaurin (a medium chain fatty acid derived from coconut) and Sambucus.

Please keep us posted about your recovery, which we hope is swift, as many of us are concerned and care about you here.

I was having upper respiratory symptoms since last Tuesday.

I immediately stopped my Assisted Living visits, and hadn't been near my grandchildren, missed my music lesson and the first Holiday Music rehearsal of my band.

Thursday, I took a quick test for COVID (negative), and I'm now awaiting the results of the long text.

Sorry you are not feeling well. Hope your prescription will help quickly. Don't get this nonsense about the paying for flu shots. They are supposed to be free w/insurance. Except if you get the shot in the office they charge for giving the shot??!!

Rest all you can. Plenty of fluids, liquid diet, maybe tea,
jello, clear broth, applesauce.

Feel better soon!

@Kachina624

Sort of like Medicare pays for the Pap smear, but not the office visit.  What the actual Heck?

Feel better soon, and as others have said, force fluids, and take your temp.

Hope you feel better soon. We had three days of 40 mph wind and it sure blew stuff around so I have been sneezing like crazy,  but not sick like you are. Keep tabs on your temp, use some zinc lozenges, and rest. We are over 65 so Medicare pays for our flu shot now. Got ours a couple of weeks ago at Walgreens so hope it helps us avoid the flu. Am sorry you are feeling so poorly and pray you are completely over it ASAP.

I hope you got yourself tested fpr flu and COVID. You never know and you don't want to infecr anyone else. Diagnosis is important because there's Tamiflu for flu and if it's COVID you don't want to get anyone sick Good luck.

@kidznpupz    No, I didn't get tested because I assumed I had the flu.  Now I'm wondering if I could have had covid since it has been almost 3 weeks and I still don't feel well.  One thing that concerns me is that I lost my sense of taste and it shows no sign of returning, unlike what happens with a cold or flu.  Never fear, however, I haven't been out of the house where I live alone so have been around no one.

Many of us in NM got our covid vaccine very early, I got my first shot last 2/17, second a month later.  There have been so many break-through cases here, they think the effectiveness waned.  I got my booster a day before I got sick so it wasn't yet effective.  Looks like we may need boosters every 6 months.
