I didnt see the program but I have been hearing about the problem. Doctors are prescribing antibiotics for every little thing and people are so afraid of germs and are using hand sanitizers, hand wash etc with germ killers in them and have subsequently assisted in the evolution of "supergerms." It is a real problem and it is only going to get worse. Exposing yourself to germs on a daily basis is what builds up your immune system and a well functioning immume system is much more effective than antibiotics etc.

I haven't seen it either, but way back in the sixties our doctor wouldn't prescribe them often either. He said a time would cone when we would be resistant to them, and he was right.

Thanks for posting NeNe & MM. It's worth watching if you can find it & it might be available online to see. I think it was first aired last year.My doctor has talked to us before about how careful he is to avoid giving antibiotics.

I haven't seen it yet, but thanks to your mention of it, I will find it at PBS online and watch it.

I am so grateful to have discovered natural virus and bacteria fighting foods and supplements and spices. And when all else fails, usually due to Rhinovirus, the Neti Pot becomes my new BFF, even though I hate using it. Wish I knew as a kid and young adult what I know today. I sure did suffer from sinus infections for long periods of time back then. I am so glad that I no longer do.

It 's only a matter of time before we see a massive uncontrollable bacteria born outbreak, here in the U.S. The pharmaceutical companies are not working on new antibiotics because the cost to get them to market is astronomically high and the profits are not there for them. I think that worldwide governments need to subsidize the companies, if we are to keep one step ahead of the next threat.

Yes, the paranoia some have about germs! I'm talking everyday stuff we run into, not the serious and deadly bacteria and viruses, of course. I wash my hands often and well after using the bathroom, cleaning the litter box, before holding a newborn, cooking, etc. It's just common sense. But I don't go nuts with disinfectant all over the house. My kids were not given antibiotic unless absolutely necessary and their illness was confirmed as a bacterial infection.

My elderly neighbor had C-Diff years ago. It very nearly killed him. He picked it up when his wife was in skilled nursing, and he scraped his leg somehow while visiting her. I made sure as best I could that his house was cleaned well before he came home (he was hospitalized for 2 months). What a mess!

I did not see it. I never take an antibiotic unless I absolutely need to. Once when I went to the doctor he told me I had walking pneumonia. I did not even know it. Did not feel sick. He wanted to prescribe an antibiotic. I asked if it would go away without it & he said yes it would just take longer so I refused the antibiotic. He said I cannot believe I actually have a patient that needs an antibiotic & does not want it. He said he has patients on a daily basis wanting antibiotics for something they don't even work for like a cold. I think doctors prescribe to their patients when they don't need it because they don't want to listen to them complain. I don't think they should be prescribed unless absolutely necessary. Lets not forget about the overuse & misuse of antibiotics they use on cattle etc. that has definitely caused huge problems.
