"Sitting on a special chair and peeing is a "horrifying medical test"? How do you go to the bathroom"
You are the soul of compassion; also, a jerk.

The first part involves you sitting on a special chair, urinating into it, and all kinds of measurements. They say they don't have to sedate you but I might ask for a little. I'm usually pretty stoic about medical matters but this has me really dreading it.
Has anyone undergone them?
Nothing to it. I have had them and assisted physicians in performing them. I think if you were having a cystoscopy, it would be annotated in your procedure's name. Urodynamics is neither commercial or generic. It is a procedure, i.e., tonsillectomy or appendectomy is a procedure name, has nothing to do with commercial or generic.

did it hurt? that's what I'm concerned about

I haven't had these particular tests, so I can't add much helpful detail. But I have had other tests that I thought would be difficult or embarassing, and as others here have noted, it's usually much better than I fear or expect.
The people who do these jobs do it tons of times each week and have experience dealing with people who are nervous. They'll typically try to make it as easy as possible, and if you have a particular concern, speak up and there may be something they can do
Thank you also to the people who took the time to write helpful, reassuring responses. Your experiences can help others and make a stressful time better.
And good luck to everyone undergoing tests. I hope the experience is better than you expect and the resutls are helpful.

It doesn't hurt. They use a numbing gel. You may be uncomfortable because you're positioned like you're having a pelvic exam.
For me, the prep took longer than the exam itself.

well, that's a little reassuring but it's the thought of where they're going to put that thing that makes my hair stand on end. Yesterday they did some kind of pelvic exam and when I saw what she was going to use on me, I nearly jumped off the table.

It takes all kinds @PuppyLoverBob666 It's common to be nervous before a test. It's easy to make the remark when somebody else is going through it. A little compassion goes a long way.
Good luck you will be OK.

@PuppyLoverBob666 wrote:If I feel that a test is horrifying, it IS. Maybe not to someone else, but it is to me. Yesterday's was not too bad but I just read a description of the next test--a cytoscopy--and that really IS frightening. The description says you can have any kind of sedation you want, and I'm going to ask for the maximum they can give me.
My first thought was if you thought those tests were "horrifying", then they didn't give you enough information.
Sure, many if us would be apprehensive with medical tests, but it's the responsibility of the doctor's staff to explain things completely and put your mind at ease. Apparently, they didn't do that.

My thanks to MOST of you and the information you've given is very helpful.

The name calling would not have been necessary had the patient called and had a pre procedure discussion as to what the test entails. If sitting in a seat to urinate is all that will happen, sedation won't help as you will need to void your bladder on your own and perhaps be able to control the flow. You can't do that under sedation.
Always go back to your source for information. In this case, it would have been your physician.
