Hi, @spumoni99 ! I've had both hips replaced. The first was in 2004, I was 49 at the time, and I remember waking up in the hospital and the pain I had before the surgery was gone, so I just had to get over the pain from the surgery. It was the best thing I'd ever done to that point. That implant is on year 21 of its 15 year life. LOL
The other hip was replaced in 2008. The surgeon in 2004 told me I'd need the other replaced in the future, so I was expecting it. Also, bad hips run in my family. My dad had both of his replaced (one twice) and my brother and one of my two sisters had one of theirs replaced.
I healed pretty quickly but I was much younger then. It is important to do the prescribed physical therapy and take the precautions necessary to protect the hip til it heals.
Good luck! 🙏

@spumoni99 I had both my hips replaced and the best purchase we ever did was to buy a lift recliner chair. I still use it to this day when my RA is bothering me and I'll go out in the night and sleep in it. The chair gave me alot more freedom when I came home. My hips both healed well and I have no problems with them.

@MJDinVegas Thats interesting, i didn't realize they had a lifespan but that makes sense. I am 64.

@hayseed00 I am thinking a lift recliner would be great! I will ask for one for my birthday in April.

@spumoni99 , I think at best the lifespan of an implant is an estimate. My left hip has a plastic lining and, if revision is needed, theoretically they can replace the plastic lining, assuming they still make replacement parts. The other is metal on metal. The interesting thing is that, when I'm out on my walk and I have my music playing on my iPhone in my pocket near the metal on metal hip, I will often have the song change on me; maybe there's a little electrical current generated by the friction of the metal. LOL
