I'm sorry you had to have pancreatic surgery. I don't really have any specific advice. Right now I'm reading Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution The Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars by Richard K. Bernstein, MD. This doctor has had diabetes for over 60 years and the book seems pretty comprehensive.

Bumping up your post.

Ita! Since following Dr. Bernstein's diet, my blood sugars have been great!

It really sounds like this OP needs to see an endocrinologist .

ITA. As much as I like to chime in w/ these conversations, when you're dealing w/ someone that has pancreatic surgery, all questions should be directed to her medical professional. High carb, low carb...I'm quietly bowing out of this conversation. Anything otherwise is grossly irresponsible.

Like I said, "...anything otherwise is grossly irresponsible" (post 1 & 10). Coquille...I hope you're in advisement with a professional about your special condition. Remember this forum is "just words"...your health is much more precious than advertising someone's book. Take care.

A lot of us have a lot of experience with diabetes, and keeping it under control (I also use a low carb Bernstein approach). That said, I have to agree with the others here. Your situation sounds like it might be more complicated than many, and there are factors involved that none of us can possibly consider. Please stay on your doctors with your questions and insist that they don't dismiss any of your questions. The most important thing for you NOT to do is ignore it.

What we can be, however, is support in however you need to face this!

I went on the board to see if someone could suggest some kind of food that I could not think of. Thanks lovescats, I'll look into that book. Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend. Stay well.

Coquille I wish I could think of a food that would be easy to digest. I hope you have a good Memorial day weekend also. Keep us updated.

The only person I know who had surgery on their pancreas ate baby food for an extended period of time, due to it being easier for her to digest. Because of your situation, I feel sure you will be able to write a book at some point because of what you will learn through trial and error. Best wishes to you!

Could you call the hospital where you had the surgery for some advice from the dietician and call the specialist 's office. A lot would depend on the type of surgery you had.
