I get heartburn from drinking just plain water sometimes!  Crazy.

@SilleeMee

I have had GERD, hiatal hernia and a Schatzki's ring for years.  Last time I checked with my GI doc, he said my stomach is in my chest.  I keep taking the Prilosec, sometimes two per day.  I take lotsa steroids, antiepileptics and a maintenance antibiotic which are not helping my indigestion one bit.

I have an AI disease, scleroderma, and that comes with GERD but mine isn't bad enough for me to be taking anything for it right now. The disease is progressive so things can change at any time unfortunately.  I just take a Tums whenever I feel the need and that works. The other day I ate some food with jalapenos in it and I thought I was gonna die...never again!Smiley Tongue

I understand.  I know it does progress but I hope the treatments for it are improving over time.  My sister-in-law had it.   I hope that you will do well and that your disease progression is very slow.

I posted earlier in the week after having just come from seeing my favorite doc at Urgent Care.  He ordered an abdominal ultrasound which I had on Wednesday and got back results quickly.  Of course, they were forwarded to my gastroenterologist who I have an appointment with next week.  The u/s said normal pancreas and gallbladder, but the liver has mild echotexture.  I mistakenly Google'd it, and, of course, it jumped to the worst possible thing I could see!  I literally got in the car and begged the gastro doc to see me just for a few minutes to explain what he thought about the results.  He didn't have time, but his nurse came out to tell me that he read the report and was not concerned and did not order any additional tests.  Meantime, of course, I'm wondering what's going on with my liver.  Is my liver causing my GERD??  I don't even have an official diagnosis from the gastro, he just keeps saying it's GERD.  I will ask him if bile is leaking from my liver,  though the report did not indicate any lesions or enlargement or anything of the liver.  I'm taking omeprazole in the morning, Pepcid before dinner, and occasionally half a spoon of cherry-flavored Gaviscon.  I can't get rid of the pressure/heaviness in my chest.  (Had EKG and Echo to rule out cardiac issues - so far, knock wood, no call from the cardiologist.)  I just don't know what's going on.  I'm 56, absolutely not what I'd call a drinker (occasional wine or beer), never eat spicy foods, drink about a cup of coffee in the morning (just cut that out), not overweight but I could use to drop a few.  I am just baffled and want to feel great again.  This has been a good forum to read.  Sorry so long, just don't know what else to do.  And I'm NOT Googling anything anymore!!!!
