Hearing loss runs in my family. I have one son who should wear hearing aids, but he won't, and at this point, I can't force him. I just turned 57 and have been wearing hearing aids myself for about 5 yrs. My loss is in high frequency sounds and I also have tinnitus. Hearing aids are definitely expensive, but you also get what you pay for. At this point you may only have a wax build up or something else going on. Once all the possibilities are exhausted, please get tested (and properly fitted, if needs be) by an audiologist. Don't think something like Miracle Ear is going to help you. They are sold by salesmen earning a commission, they know nothing about the function of the ear. And as an aside, I have had both the in the canal type of aids and the over the ear type. I couldn't stand the ones that were completely in the ear. I HIGHLY recommend the over the ear type. I just got a new pair a couple of months ago Widex Dreams, and they're awesome!

I developed tinnitus when I started taking thyroid medicine. And I am not sure if it is from the tinnitus or hearing loss but I have trouble hearing high frequency. I was in my early 50's when I got my hearing aid. It was a great help. It was made my ReSound and was designed for tinnitus. I also have over the ear style hearing aids. The idea of a completely in the ear would block the noise entering the ear except by way of the hearing aid.

I went to 2 different ENT doctors and they both said ""hearing aids"" were the answer.
