Isn't it a bit too early to get a flu shot? It'll wear off before the flu season is over.

I never had a flu shot, nor have I ever had the flu.  I don't get colds either

I wish they had a vaccine for the stomach bug....I'd take that one and be first in line.

Re: Have you had a flu shot yet?

I tried to get my flu shot when I picked up scripts last week.  Because pharmacy was short staffed, I was told to make an appt. online. I went back Friday for a 1:00 appt.  No issues at all since the shot.

Re: Have you had a flu shot yet?

No and I don't plan on getting one.  I haven't had a flu shot since the mid 1990s and haven't gotten the flu since 1974.

If someone should come along and tell me that my immune system weakens over time and I have a greater chance of getting sick, I realize that.  However my vitamin D level is 65 and I hope to maintain that among other things that I do to keep healthy.

I also had a neighbor across the street from me get his senior flu shot last October and had to be hospitalized for three days immediately after getting it.

@Carmie   Funny you should mention that.  Like you I never get the flu but I have gotten a stomach bug a few times which lasts usually just a day or two but is awful!  I don't know if it's something bad that I ate or a virus.  I Googled both and they have the same symptoms.

Re: Have you had a flu shot yet?

100% agree with those who have never gotten a flu shot.  Count me in as one who has never had the flu, never had the flu shot and have no plans to ever get one.  From what I read, flu shots are less than 50% effective and unless there is some compelling reason to do so, I see no reason to get one.

I may get a booster Pfizer shot when available but in no rush to do so.

I haven't had a flu shot in years because when I did, I would get the flu. I did have my pneumonia shots, and I've been flu-free ever since. I'm 73; will be 74 in about 2 weeks.

" CDC estimates that influenza has resulted in between 9 million – 45 million illnesses, between 140,000 – 810,000 hospitalizations and between 12,000 – 61,000 deaths annually since 2010 "

Re: Have you had a flu shot yet?

I received the senior (quadrivalent) flu shot  on September 14 when I took a quarterly physical and lab tests and saw my doctor that day as a matter of course.

My brother is a physician and told me the immunity does not "wear off" by the end of the flu sesason since we carry antibodes built from former flu shots, too. It takes a couple of weeks to build up immunity again so mid- September is appropriate in order to be safe by October onward, when flu is more common. This booster is helpful for the current strain that might be encountered.

Though any flu shot is not going to be 100%  effective, if it helps minimize the effects of flu or prevent me from being infected to any extent, I think it is worth taking. I'm glad I did it. I had no side effects at all, not even a sore arm.

I hope those who have never gotten the flu and have declined to be vaccinated never experience a real case of flu. It is quite something to contend with. You might need help to get well and it might take a while.
