I have a ruptured disk, 2 bulging disks, spinal stenosis and osteoporosis plus I have bone-on-bone in my knees. I had MS years ago but I have been in a good remission for many years. I have done extremely well with all those maladies until recently. I have taken Fosamax, Forteo, Reclast injections and Prolia shots but now my teeth are getting really bad because bones in gum area are getting so hard, teeth are pulling away and my pain in back, knees, back, hands, ankles, wrists, etc.
I need something besides steroids, NSAIDs and Tylenol. I don't like to be drug-dependent.
The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin. Curcumin is not a pain killer but it can reduce pain b/c it's an anti-inflammatory. Curcumin stops certain enzymes in the body from triggering joint swelling but it doesn't work for everyone and the amounts you need to take is critical for it to work at all.

I used Fosamax, Forteo, Reclast and Prolia. I was using Fosamax which was causing GI problems, about the time they came out with Reclast infusions and I began them. I was also told not to get them. I think, if I make no mistake, that there are warnings about that and denta work, and then I got the Prolia shots. My oncologist/hematologist and surgeon who did mastectomy would like for me to continue the Prolia shots but my internist and oral surgeon advise me against it. It's so much to contemplate. I have so much arthritic pain and getting a Dowager's hump now from the osteoporosis. I think that was caused from so much steroids. I got intrathecal steroids of 1000 mg/1g daily for 3 days per q 6 months for about 2-3 years.

I'm sorry that your going through all of that. @Nonametoday
I hope you can find some relief soon. Turmeric might help with inflammation but be sure and discuss it with your doctor first b/c it can cause issues with other parts of your body plus it can have cross-reactivity with other meds.

I am better familiar with Life Extension Curcumin. It is the only one that is made to be absorbed better. My husband took it everyday during radiation and, as an article was being released by radiologists. They were extolling the benefits of turmeric during cancer treatment. My husband had high beam radiation, along with injections Luperin? They were amazed at the results. He held his stamina , didn't burn , and seemed to heal better. My husband also exercised everyday. Turmeric works for inflamation. I have many friends who benefit from it. I can't take any other kind of turmeric as it upsets my stomach.

Thank you so much for that. I always ask my oncologist/hematologist. I trust him more but I discuss with my internist as well. She doesn't like it if I don't. I love her too. I don't want to lose her as my IM doc. It is always something when you are immunoglobulin deficient. I guess some of us had to be. It's better than what many others have.

@Kachina624 : 🤓.I needed a good laugh. I have tried different brands of turmeric and other highly recommended items and no help for me.
@Kachina624 wrote:@msgb. Yes, I just finished a bottle of Andrew Lessman turmeric I bought to try for my joint and back pain. It did absolutely nothing for me. I might as well have popped M&Ms.

@SilleeMee wrote:How did the Prolia damage your existing dental implants? That doesn't sound right to me. I'm on Prolia and I have several existing implants so I'm just asking.
I would also like to know this as I take Prolia shots.
Apparently it does not affect everyone the way it did me. I was midway of getting several implants because fillings and/or root canals going bad. I had already had several years of Fosamax & Forteo. Was recommended not to get Reclast but endocrinologist thought it was okay. Then when Prolia came out, got that. Some doctors said not to while others said it was okay. Apparently drugs that harden your bones and cadaveric grafts make them less holy, harden those and teeth pull away from the bones/the gums and will cause grafts to require redoing or removing. I had some done twice and others were considered unfixable. The major problem with not removing them once that begins to occur is osteonecrosis, which is dead bone and is extremely dangerous and only treatable with IV antibiotics and not always successful and can be fatal.

I have tried it twice for about a month or two each time and notcied NO difference. I will not waste any more money on this supplement. When I really need to, I will take an Advil or Tylenol for relief.

@Nonametoday Any doctors suggest surgery? I had my right knee replaced several years ago when it was bone on bone after pt and time it is now about as good as new
